Axle spacer?

Greetings all
Last week I suffered a wheel bearing 'collapse' on my Motodd. It was the left hand bearing in my rear wheel. The wheel is a two piece Marvic. I was wondering about why the bearing might fail (apart from 20 years use). I note that on this wheel there is no spacer between the left and right bearings, and I conclude that could well be a contributing factor.
Should have a spacer tube between bearings, yes? Mind you, 20 years use isnt too bad for that little bearing.

Regards, Andre

20 years without a spacer? You have been fortunate.
I believe there should be a spacer to prevent the bearings being put under side load when the spindle is tightened.

Very strange!

No spacer means the axle was never done up tight...

The bearing surviving 20 years without a spacer fades to meaninglessness compared to you surviving these 20 years in one piece!!

:o :o That's incredible!         No spacer?  I think you've found the problem.

I know what it's like to have a Rear Wheel come loose. While spiritedly rounding a verily sharp corner at approx 70 mph it happened. Only the Left Hand of God could have saved me that day. The Big Nut that holds the Rear Drive Sprocket to the Swing Arm came loose and the rear wheel went into a violent oscillation. I never went back to a Motorcycle Shop for servicing after that.

I swear the Right Hand of God must have been holding you up for the last 20 years - Now it's up to You ;o)

Not to have had a disastrous equipment failure or worse proves that at one time you have been fucked by the fairies and you should immediately go forth and buy a lottery ticket :D

Dont know about that fairies bit, but maybe I'll go get a lotto ticket huh. Might check front wheel spacer... Never too old to learn
