My uncle was a toolmaker back in the UK in the 70s through 00s. I recall him once telling me in the early 80s his company had received a block of material to machine into some odd, largely rectangular shapes. He said it was the hardest (ie most difficult) material he'd ever had to work with: light as a feather and as friable as meringue, the hardest part was making a jig to hold it without it disintegrating. They gave up in the end: turned out it was a trial to make tiles for the Space Shuttle....(fail).

Used this clear adhesive before in above and below water applications and price is not bad either - http://www.fixtech.com.au/shop/product/item16972/fixseal-msp-clear.html?process=shop%2FproductView.php.  if you are really after a clear, flexible adhesive, this might well be the go...
