Balance pipe or no balance pipe?

Would appreciate some thoughts......

Between the three carbs on my triple is an air balance pipe. Does this offer any benefit or should it be removed?

From my observation after balancing the engine seems less happy with it in place than without.

Hi Rob,

in theory, if the carbs are accurately balanced, you don't need that hose connection. BUT: they get out of balance very soon after you took off for the first spin and afterwards, the balance pipe can help to smooth out idle with slightly unbalanced carbs.

I would also check for cracks close two of the ends (with a finger each, should seal tight enough) and blow into the 3rd to see if you can build up pressure and listen for air to escape. Best if you put the tube into a bowl of water while blowing air into it and holding the other ends closed.

naaa - not original anymore...  :o

interestingly if you consider our bikes as works of art, or functional works of art, the definition of original changes substantially, as per the definition below for art
?Original? quite simply means a unique one-off piece"....... if you modify your bike , then by this definition it becomes original.

If you admire someone because they break the mould of main stream people , you can consider them "original" if they seem one of a kind....

so by that definition I will make as many changes to my bikes as I want, making them by the definition above original!

i just dont have enough control over myself to be so restrained as to not change my bikes. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

This is a functional work of art. Marcel Duchamp, urinal.

Our motorcycles are just motorcycles.

Ah yes, Duchamp, a true 'Piss Artist'...

UK definition is a bit wider ranging
Piss Artist; A savant of drinking, someone who makes it look like an art form, a true patron when it comes to sinking piss. Someone who can down 24 beers and carry on like a champion: Sub reference: BFN teamster.
