Balance weights

In the tubeless tyres I just put in 2ozs of steel shot or old ball bearing balls, in tubed tyres check out dynabeads http://www.innovativebalancing.com/motorcycle.htm

It really does work, been using it for years, tyres stay in balance for their whole life and you can shift the beads to your new tyres.

A mechanic in Brisbane maintained that bike wheels didn't need balancing because of their large diameter :D

Hmm, well glad you didn't follow his lead. he's got his logic in reverse  ???

I reckon what he meant is they don't need dynamic balancing. Dynamic balancing is used to balance rocking couples caused by a balance weight which is off the central plane of the tyre. Static balancing can't identify rocking couples. Rocking couples can be significant on a wide car-type tyre (which is why they put balance weights on both sides of the rim). But with a large diameter and relatively skinny motorcycle wheel, any rocking couple would be negligible.

Cheers,
Cam

Thanks Cam, makes sense to me

Whenever I hear the term 'rocking couple' my mind paints an entirely different picture....
