Battery Box

While stuffing around with the flat battery problem I was, past tense I hope, noticed the foam mat under the battery had collapsed flat.Today I picked up some replacement foam and removed to old stuff.Yep there was as expected some surface rust under the old foam. Its got a couple of coats of Galmet Rust Converter and I am finishing with a couple of coats of Galmet Epoxy.I got the impression while scrapping it it might be made out of Stainless, quite bright finish under the old foam paint and rust.Anyone know? The question is should I hit the new foam with a coat of contact glue to hold it in place, the foam will stand up OK with the glue but I am not keen on making a rust trap in the future.Todays earth shattering decision.Bit sad isn't it.

G'day Vince

Battery trays on the 3C are ordinary steel, not stainless. Give it a good clean with a 4" angle grinder with a wire brush rotor, then slop on a few coats of your epoxy. Once the steel has a good coat of epoxy, it'll be well enough protected to glue whatever you want onto it (plenty of experience with steel boats here - a good clean surface and epoxy paint is the way to go).

Even if the battery tray does eventually rust out, just cut the remains of it away and drop in one of Red's stainless trays. In fact, you might be better off doing that now.

Its a pretty high density of foam.Halfway between rubber and the really soft foam. The Deca battery is supposed to be vib resistant, made for Harley's,but better it gets some cushioning.Doing the same for the EI box.
