I'm sure this has been asked before but what is the best battery.
RGS with 1200 conversion and high comp pistons turns over but does not fire as soon as I put jump leads from BMW r1150gs starts no problem, so like RGS battery turns over but not enough umph for a spark.
I have Motobatt on now which is only 9 months old and I did have a problem with regulator (now Sorted) but that is fairly crap life for a battery The BM battery has been on for 5 years.
So what's the recomendation chaps?

Odyssey PC625.  It's exactly the right height, but slightly smaller than the o/e battery (and much more powerful of course)  I cut a piece of thick closed cell foam to shape so that there was no chance of the battery slipping around in the tray.

Duff reg/rect will likely have impaired your battery capacity. AGM type more susceptible than traditional wet lead/acid.  Any decent replacement will do the job. Starting current requirement not particularly onerous, assuming starter motor; relay and cables in good order.
I too use Odyssey, but opinions vary!

14.5 is ideal, range 14.3 - 14.7. Allow a minute for reading to settle at 3000rpm with everything else off.
"duff earth" could have sent R/R output high and goosed your AGM battery  :(

Mine would start great hot, really poor cold .Its hard to test these sealed batteries as well, I had a local bike shop load test one and gave it a 80% ok, still poor starting and then the local battery distributor said the same. By then I just gave up and spend the $150 on a new battery, that fixed it for a good 6 months. In the end my starter motor needed a good going over 6 months later, if I remember right 2 of the 4 brushes were toast. It all helps.

I would go LiFePo4. Way smaller, just 10% of the weight of a gel battery and equall or better starting power (at a higher price though...). Have one in my Zane Formula and that one sucks over 300 A during cranking the engine...
