Belt Drive

Long-time members of this forum probably recall the after market belt primary drive kits offered by LyteDrive (?) years ago.  Those kits were not successful, apparently because the belts failed due to their running in a oil environment.  With the march of technology turning up new things all the while, I wonder if there are belts available today that can survive an oil bath.  I still have a belt drive kit on the shelf I never fitted.  Maybe the day has arrived?  Who knows about such matters?  What is the current state of the belts available to us?

Don't go looking for trouble is my suggestion the chains work fine

The warm 1200 in my pic was originally fitted with a Lytedrive kit - the owner had one and wanted to use it.

After breaking two original Lytedrive black belts and one aftermarket urethane one - and the subsequent stripping and cleaning out of the debris - it's now got one of the Merc duplex chains fitted. Which I highly recommend.

BTW, the only way we could be sure of getting all the debris was to bite the bullet and install one of Red's superb cranks.....

the only way to safely install the belt is to make it run outside the oil area. It was done already by a Laverdista (don't have the pic anymore but for sure someone does).
