Best battery for 78 1200 Mirage

The battery on my Mirage has died after just under 2 years.
Before I buy a new one I was wondering if anyone has any opinion as to which would be best for this bike?
The "dead" battery, which was on the bike when I bought it, is a Vertex VP 30-3 so I don't want another of those!
I've looked through the literature I got with the bike & I'm struggling to find the spec for the battery I need. Does anyone know what sort of Cold Cranking Amps I should be going for please?

PM sent but plenty of threads about batteries can be found via the search function.

Batteries, like oil and tyres are very much down to personal choice.
 
I just replaced my 53030 Banner Starting Bull Battery 12V 30Ah, 300 CCA, £70.05 inc. delivery from Tayna Batteries
(note doesn't include the vent pipe, save your existing, assuming you have one, or add to order).
My previous one lasted five years, still held 12.45V but struggled to spin the starter quickly on a freezing cold morning.
 
I have been using these in my three Laverda triples, plus a couple of non Laverda's. I currentl;y have 7 of these batteries. I got ten years out of a couple of them. Not inexpensive but really good quality for the most part, although a couple of Laverda Forum members have reported short battery life, I persoanlly have had realy good experiences with these. https://www.odysseybattery.com/products/ods-agm16l-battery-pc680/

Only had 2 lithium batteries explode in the workshop this year......... Head mechanic, ex Wayne Gardner race mechanic, lucky not to be injured. Triumph now fitting them as standard, will get interesting.
 
I was looking at getting an Odyssey PC680 for my 77 Jota, but i gather some trickle chargers aren't compatible with them, eg. my CTEK, can anyone advise which tricklers they use with these?...sorry to hyjack.
 
any 12 volt battery that will fit the space will work on your triple, as stock they are massively over sized (capital M) in the past as a get out of jail card I have use a tiny battery from a 400/4 Honda (late wife's bike) and it worked just fine for a long time, I use 24amp/hour and usually these are cheapest from an agricultural supplier, but recently our good friend from the Sussex/Kent/S London meet (Dave) now known as truffle sniffer, discovered that Halfords were selling them off at a tenner a piece, long gone now, but a lot of Lavs suddenly got spare batteries, astock charging system on a 180 with BTZ ignition wont work well with an Odyssey, due to insufficiant charging voltage. yoyur bike is in this category GVHbiker and also philw

I have an Odyssey battery on my '79 Mirage. It's connected to an optimate 4 charger in the garage; the ignition system is the original CDI with 140W generator. The battery is now 9 years old and is still in good working order. I would definitely buy another one but they are not cheap.

Depending on which CTEK you have, it is a recommended charger. You need one with the AGM snowflake symbol/setting. This reaches 14.7v during the absorption phase to fully charge the Odyssey. Anything less won't.

Thanks Rob, my CTEK does have the snowflake symbol, the bike has Ignitech ignition system with 3 phase 280 alternator fitted, the original CDI system was showing its age.
