big chill

Jeeze, Scandinavian summer conditions 🥶, not so sweaty🥵
Let's hope that toolbox only gets opened to get out the tyre pressure gauge and not a whole stack of spanners and stuff.
Best of luck for a great weekend Ian.

I guess you got the head rebuilt successfully Ian, which is pretty good going in such a short space of time. Hope everythings hangs together okay this time out. As for the weather, I’m not sure which I would least like, what you’re predicting or the 37C we had recently at Paul Ricard.

10 minutes after the Bureau of Meteorology announces La Nina is over we have a Forecast of 200mm in the next week, with the Warragamba Dam at 95% capacity it's happening again.

Well, that turned out to be challenging weekend.. cold wet Saturday for practice and quallie, then 2 races in the afternoon. Managed to get into P4 for the starts, so happy with that.
My starts are usually pretty good but fluffed my first one, and got it better for the second. Small fields and even smaller circuit.. (1.1 klm with 6 turns..) means close racing for all 6 laps.. get overtaken, overtake back, watch the other lads try to stuff it up the inside, try to follow, get shut out.. all that sort of thing.. :ROFLMAO:
Sunday dawned clear and sunny.. bloody cool track still, so grip not great but into it we go and had a ball playing with the lads.. Monty went well all meeting.. bit of a stutter at low revs but a set of new plugs and a bowl drain seemed to improve matters somewhat, but still not happy. Will have to look into that.
And just to finish off with a craik.. I am usually ably attended by one Mister Mark Muir who is very good to have at your back.. on this occasion he couldn't make it and another mate, who shall remain nameless (clue.. started this thread..;)) was in support. Now, it is late Saturday, suns going down, fire is coming along nicely, and we need to remove the battery for charging overnight.. no power in the bush camp so I take it to the Motel for this chore.. So as I remove the leads etc. we are joined by another 'expert' who proceeds to tell me how to do it.. long story short, by the time we had that repartee the mood was ready for the fire so we covered Monty, packed the pit and away we went for a warming dram.. got back to the Motel, saw the charger on the bench and thought.. bugger...!! Battery still in the bike, albeit disconnected. Now if Mark had been there he would've watched the previous performance and before we got all excited about a bevvy woulda said.. "all very well lads, but are you going to actually remove that battery..?"
Ya Gotta Love Ya Mates In The Pit..

Well, it was a great weekend.. thanks Mark for your valuable support in the pits and all the CLQ lads and friends that came out to see the Formula 500 having a go. We had some brilliant racing over the 2 days, highlight being pole position for the combined age over 100 yrs bike and rider, followed by a cracking start and close racing all the way to the flag.. only got 4th but shoot I made them earn it..!! Being so short and just 6 laps in a tight field you can imagine how these things go.. :p Our mate Darty made up some footpeg mods for me and new Avons made a huge difference to the ride.. Carnell Park is an old bush track, just 1.1 klm with 6 corners, but actually quite challenging with the ups and downs as you motor around.. Fantastic weekend hosted by QEMSC and pleased to have been a part of it..

Great stuff Ian. How do you find the Formula to race compared to the Monty?
Bit different Lee.. Monty seems more compact but Formula has more drive down low.. I'm looking forward to getting Monty back on the track and do some real comparisons between the two.. but, happy to have them both to play with.. :p

In theory there should be no difference in engine performance etc between a F500 and a Monty as the bikes were exactly the same in ‘standard’ form other than the bodywork. In fact I’m not sure the extra weight of the full fairing provides an advantage In terms of streamlining Etc.
AFAIK, the first series F500 came supplied with a close ratio gear box, but the series two mainly came fitted with a standard Alpino/Montjuic gear box with the close ratio box being an optional extra.
However, how many F500 bikes remained ’standard’ is a question nobody really knows the answer, but it’s probably not many, but the same goes for Monty’s and Alpinos.
