Just got a mail from the organisers of the Bikers Classics at Francorchamps.

This years event is on, for those using the track. There's probably still room in the sessions if you want to book in.

No spectators, no demonstrations.
Will probably be very nice for those who can partake.

Though it is to become a bi annual event, things will be back to normal for 2021 if all goes well.

Hmm - bit of a conundrum Paul.  D'you reckon it is safe to travel, let alone the practicalities of maintaining social distancing?  The cynic in me reckons Bikers Classics want to hold on to all the entry fees already paid to cover their own sunk costs. 

Given the UK government FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel, doing so means no insurance/medical cover.  A step too far at the current time.  And some of us old codgers are in the at risk group before we get on a bike!
 
Probably even more of an issue for me as although I can get off the island without too much of an issue, getting back on will be. I will certainly have to do two weeks isolation when I get back. However, depending on the UK?s rules I may also have to find somewhere to isolate myself in the UK before I can travel to the IOM. Not sure I fancy up-to a month locked up just for a four hour motorcycle race if the organisers are still planning to run it (assuming of course the FIM have sanctioned a return to racing by July and the ACU give permission to their licence holders to compete).

Without doubt Rob. One can well understand that the organisers want to limit their losses.

As for the rest, at the moment, the Belgian borders are closed. There are concrete blocks across the roads. What the situation will be like in 2 months is anybodies guess.
There are however plenty of German and Dutch neighbours who are already quite mobile.

Us French are being told, politely for the moment, not to count on international travel and maybe not even the sacred "vacances" within the French borders.

What surprises me the most is the proposal of hold on the event while most of Belgium?s neighbors are told to plan travels in their own country till the end of August/ end of the year.
I personally doubt that one can maintain social distancing in public showers and toilets.

It is hard to see that they can make it happen. How far in advance do participants have to pay in full? Here we enter within the deadline, and usually pay when you check in at the secretariat. Some Swedish races you can pay in advance, but this would surely qualify for "force majeur" and they could not justify withholding the fees of international competitors. We are in a similar boat here, and I hope my club doesn't try to hold our local Classic TT, as the lack of entrants from outside Norway would give it a huge loss on the books just so we could ride that meeting with probably very depleted fields. And many classic race people?s age puts them pretty much in the high risk category, so not really tempted to group together for it, I doubt I will go even if they do hold it, it is no joke if you get it, even if you do survive.

Spa organisers are following the R?gion Wallonne's (french speaking part of our Belgian Federal state) guidelines.
R?gion Wallonne is owning 99,..% of the Public Company managing the circuit.

DG Sport should communicate shortly about how they will address the subject of reimbursements.
Let's see.
 
Just been offered a voucher for 2021 entry in place of my reservation for this year.  So fair play to the organisers.

Their comments - of course we understand your concerns and comments? But on the other hand, if our government and the circuits allow us to organize the Bikers?Classics (respecting all their guidelines) we have to respect the commitments we have with the circuit and our participants. I must admit it is not an easy for situation.
