bosch early ignition switch

So I got a used ignition switch from Wolf and it uses the nail style key.
Seems that anything will turn the switch (small flat blade screw driver) and also seems that the key was meant to push the switch in for some reason (the little button pushes in when you push the key down hard) can someone explain how these worked when new?
I'm guessing that as it's used it no longer functions quite right.
Thanks,
Don

This link was given to me by Stefan a while ago    http://www.motorrad-stemler.de/dcenter/down/r%2050%20bis%20r%2069%20s.pdf  look at page 74 items 9 & 10  they are 2 ball bearings and a spring to hold them tensioned. That's what holds the key down in the on position, dissassembly is not for the faint hearted but if you have not yet got the switch fitted to the headlamp shell then not too difficult. There is a webpage somewhere telling about dismantling this switch when fitted to a BMW /5 I'll try to find it and post a link.

Sorry fellas, this is the one I speak of... I believe it's a Bosch.

Don,

Yes, definitely a Bosch item.  Used on SF with ND clocks, and a few early triples.

Looks like the key is a bit short, got new ones if you like.  With an indent at the correct height, the key will stay in position and not pop out at the first road bump.

Don,
piet is right: your key is broken.
I bought one from Riccardo Oro (the one on the right) one year ago, I don't remember the price but should be less than 10 euros.
Ciao - Marco
