Can anyone tell me the correct way to replace the Brushes on the starter motor off a 500?

Once it's apart the wires need soldering on but then how does it easily go back together?

Or does it go back together then you solder it?

Lots of swearing, PLEASE HELP!

Robin.  :o

Soldering is best done with the brush plate off the starter....but unless you have a very powerful soldering iron, you'll get solder wicking up the braids attached to the brushes.  This stops them flexing and leads to poor brush contact/excessive wear.  The brush springs need to be 'held off' when the brush plate is re-installed to get the armature in place...various ways of doing this.  On a triple you can rest the springs on the top edge of the brush holder.  Never tried a 500, so can't comment!  A good motor rewind shop or auto electrical workshop would be the easy way out!

Yes I think you are right Rob, take it to an expert!

The 500 starter motor is the same internally as far as I know.

Cheers.

ANYONE RECOMEND ANYONE TO DO IT?

I'm I'm Northamptonshire?
