Hi Clay -  I bought one of these - but haven't fitted it yet

the one you put up looks Ok - regards - phil

I can?t open the links on this boat internet. I used to use ones for VW beetle and they used to burn out the resistor for overcharge. Now using a digital Sachse one (apparently there are new people running it again; RIP Volker),  and has been fine.

i've read Bosch are making a replacement to keep the rivet counters of the 'old timers' happy?

The standard VW regulators are 30A whilst the Laverda is 11A.

I borrowed a 20A regulator off a Steyr Puch Haflinger sitting in my shed.

Probably rarer than the correct Laverda item. (I can imagine you guys running out to check on the Hafflingers in your sheds).

Anyway, I would be very interested in a solid state 10 or 15A regulator that would suit the series wound dynamo for the Laverda.

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Clay.

The previous forum talk seems to indicate that the original item is quite good but, like Phil, I bought a solid state item so that I could mount it without the hammock to soak up vibrations.

Haven't used it yet, though, so cannot comment on its performance.

Many years ago I made the mistake of fitting the std VW unit and promptly burnt out the dynamo. The genuine Bosch replacement came from an auto elec in Melbourne and was at least twice the price of the almost identical looking VW unit. But they are so reliable it's hard to go past the 'real' thing. For a bit of fun I ended up fitting a ND Kwaka GPX1000 alternator driven by a Gates toothed belt - works a treat and is light (also charges at idle, so small batteries are fine - more wight saving).

Also doing starter /relay solonoids from The Green Spark Plug co sales@gssparkplug.com  orders direct from Bosch,?76 so not cheap.Lucky I have one already.

Is that the rhino who stepped on a landmine, Phil?
I also have great faith in the genuine ones but had trouble getting them set up correctly. The electronic model is tiny and as Dale says, isn?t troubled by vibration. A forum search should bring up a lot of discussion around alternatives which we had a while ago.

Would this do?
