Brake Callipers

Just putting the callipers back together after changing the seals and was wondering if there was a specific torque setting for the bolts that hold the two halves together or is just the generic 22 - 30 ft lbs for a 10mm bolt.

Don't think Brembo ever offered a figure...but BMW did!  29 + 3.6 ft lb or 40 + 5Nm
Ties in with similarly sized steering yoke cap head bolts that also mate with alloy threads.

I've never done them up with a torque wrench. I put anti-seize grease on them and do them by hand until they feel about right. I've never had a caliper fail because the bolts were too loose.

The beauty of Allen keys is that they're self-limiting in a crude sort of way - the long end isn't long enough to put too much torque on the bolt by hand (unless you're built like Arnold Schwarzenegger).

If you use a torque wrench, I'd suggest a torque somewhere towards the lower end of the generic figures to avoid overloading the aluminium thread in the caliper. I've seen 18 ft.lb quoted on a couple of bike forums.

Edit:
Well, there you go. Two totally different answers!  :D
Just shows the value of info you find on the internet forums.
Hopefully someone who knows more than me or Rob will come along.
