I had a go with the vernier caliper, and this is what I found:
Black F08 calipers on the other bikes have a throat measurement of 26.4 mm.
All three gold calipers on the 1000 SFC have a throat measurement of 25.0 mm, and no provision for dust caps. They have teflon coated pistons, and the standard seal kit works fine.
New brake disc thickness 6.8mm
New pads are 9.1mm thick x 2 = 18.2mm
Adds up to 25.0 mm so no clearance possible.
Also, the caliper was about 1mm off centre.
So, I shimmed the caliper mounting 1 mm to centre it, then milled 1 mm off the lining of each pad.
Not sure what they make organic brake linings of, but it stank like dog shit! :-X
The brake works fine now.
