BTZ

i'm tying to work through some BTZ issues. I can't find a BTZ diagram and I have it figured like this. Is it right?
The capacitor of each CDI box is powered by the orange/white wire coming from the ignition switch.

Each CDI box is connected to its alternator pickup by two wires. I expect one will carry a timing pulse to the CDI box. The other is a return to its pickup, to close the timing circuit.

The CDI boxes have earth wires too. I think they must close the pwr circuit from the switch? (that is, these earths are not part of the timing circuits).

I guess the 5th wire from each CDI box that goes to its coil, will carry a timed voltage surge from the capacitor to its spark plug(s) via its coil.

If it works like that, which of the wires from the pickups to the CDIs carry the timing pulses and which are the returns?
What voltage should the timing pulse be?
Should I be able to generate a timing pulse winding the crank by hand?
What voltage should be carried on that 5th wire to the sparkplug (via the coil)?

Thanks in advance

BTZ hmm not sure why you need to persevere with it, to be brutally honest you are way better off to fit a modern ignition it will save your engine, give you better performance/starting/running and peace of mind. However if you must here ya go...

hi Brett,
Thanks for putting these up. Interesting to see the ignitech diagram. Yes, i'm moving towards replacing the BTZ and its there in the project plan.
Right now, I'm just trying to get my head around what goes on the BTZ CDI boxes, i.e. what are all those spade connectors doing? Also, how can I test functionality of the different components? It's intellectual curiosity as much as anything?
Cheers

Just a clarification, but I thought that the earlier HKZ system is CDI whereas the BTZ is inductive discharge. I know that this probably doesn't help but the two systems operate quite differently.

Cheers,
