Calling Boba

your living in a fantasy world if you believe you will get a refund from that rip off arsehole Boba
he is into me for $1,000's and refuses to answer emails and I know of at least 1/6 dozen other owners that have paid up front for goods and never received a single piece
and eventually their email replies dried up as well
Blimey , opened up a can of worms here ....... Was talking in general terms , regarding the way I would deal with any situation where the items were not up to standard ...... not necessarily targeting the gentleman in question ........ Very sorry to hear about your experiences , not a good situation to be in , same goes for others involved as well ........ I think I`d better leave it at that ! ............:cautious: ...........

FWIW, when they added ethanol to the fuel at the marinas lots of boats with fiberglass tanks had problems. The tanks melted and clogged the carbs and did engine damage. Turns out only polyester resin is susceptible to failure from exposure to alcohols, epoxy or vinylester had no issues at all.

I certainly don't have any issues with epoxy/carbon tanks regarding ethanol.
Have a mate who races using methanol and carbon/epoxy tank. Her doesn't leave fuel in the tank between meetings except for when he's playing with it for tuning reasons.
I would be quite interested in hearing from anybody that has have problems. There are quite a few Boba tanks in use and apart from the above posts haven't heard of any issues regarding ethanol. It seem to me to be more of an manufacturing fault rather than ethanol.

The tank was brand new when it started to leak so definately a manufacturing fault. Emails from Boba also dried up after a replacement tank didn't materialise & then saying he couldnt afford to provide a refund.....
So Caswells epoxy sealer it will be if its not gonna remain an expensive ornament.

His products look great and I still don't think he is a bad person in general, but his business behaviours have been shit overall. Still don't have my 1000 SFC Tank back that I sent him more than 6 years ago. Endless message trails (e-mail, WhatsApp) with promisses and excuses from his side, non of the promisses was kept. Yes, he had serious health issues, yes, due to that he has financial issues. still - he needs to live from something and it could have been carbone parts, as there was definitely a market out there and the base products do not cost millions. However, you need to deliver, especially if you take money in advance, else people get pissed and with such a small community, the word is out quicker than you can solve it...

I was so pissed about not getting the tank back that I sold all my parts that I got from him after 2 years of begging, as I just don't want to be remembered of this shitty behaviour anymore. Someone else is happy now, I got a compensation for my parts and frustration. End of (my) story with him.

We all know the saying, behind every successful man is a woman.

Same (similar) in business, just because John the baker makes the most awarded cakes, doesn’t mean John is a great businessman. Chances are, all he knows is how to make great cakes.

John’s a baker, and a fucken good one at that. But to make John’s bakery succeed in business takes more than just making great cakes.

If John had someone ‘running’ the business properly maybe he’d have a better chance of having a successful in business that made …. fucken great cakes.

We don’t know the background of Bobas small enterprise.

The response to a few emails I sent, eventually, drew a response, in totality it said “Please be patient” suggesting to me he was in over his head, or, above his customer relationship capabilities.

I feel for him, because he makes fucken good carbon fibre parts.

Chris, talk to Red. Not sure he ever got his parts or the money back that he sent over, and that was not just a few bugs.

I defended him for a long time, even donated some money when he wasn't well etc... You should think that would at least be respected and your parts, that you sent him on your own cost would be sent back after making the moulds, right? Question is: How much patience does one have to have to get parts back (!) ??

I looked it up: I sent him the Tank 2012. That is 13 years ago. Do you think I would EVER get my tank back? Would you recommend doing business with a person that treats your stuff like that?

At least I got a set of Carbon fibre products from him for the 1000 SFC, but I had to pay in addition for it. I sold it on as said as I lost my patience with him and did not want to bother if things did not turn out to be as I wanted them or what ever. Seems the new owner is happy.

I won't wait for the tank to come back to me. I mentally wrote it off and will never do any business with that person ever in my life time. As they say:

"If you fool me ones, shame on you. If you fool me twice, shame on me.

My lifetime isn't unlimited. Yours?

Max and I do know the background of his business as we spent many weeks in Serbia with Boba before he even started selling the carbon kit
We were the first Laverda owners to see any of his products which lead us to bankrolling his start up and advanced him funds many many times
Could say lots on this subject but prefer to just forget the whole sorry deal

Clearly frustratingly sad tales behind your experience.

I have never bought anything from Boba, and have not tried to, I did donate a significant amount of money to aid his cancer operation, which I dont regret, I wanted to help him, along with many others in the Laverda community, because at that time he was very much "one of us". he no longer is. my contribution was 250GBP, I think the fund, that was managed by Grant Duigood reached 10,000GBP.
CLEM

Yeah - Grant did a great job on supporting him; he visited him I think several times and really got friend with him. He tried to help me on getting my parts and the tank back, but also gave up at a certain point in time...

I donated a bit less than you, still contributed to the 10.000GBP and also don't regret doing. I more regret to having sent him my tank... Not that I think he has made millions out of it, I think he might have just sold it to get him some food at a point in time. I don't know and it wasn't worth driving down to him more than 1.000km and back just to pick it up.

products were great, he ruined actually his health partly with it as he was not wearing masks all the time when he laminated the parts. He could have done a great business out of it, which for some unknown reason he failed to do. He got enough support from arround the world I feel to be able to make a re-start after his cancer surgery. But then, what do I know from a distance...?

It's a shame that creative and talented people very often are not able to make living from their talents. I have someone in my family that was or maybe still is very similar (no connection anymore since almost 20 years). Supported him over 15 years financially and mentally just to get kicked into the balls when I asked for his help. Actually twice, so blame is on me for letting that happen.
