Which way does the offset face for the cam chain support that is mounted under the engine (rectangular plate on sump)?

This has come up before but I cannot remember the answer. But there is a correct orientation. Someone will know

This from a quick search, copy and paste.

Although it maybe not be immediately obvious, the curved part at the top of the cam chain support is "handed", being wider on one side than the other.

Have a careful look at it when you remove it. With an engine this old, you cannot assume whoever installed it last put it in correctly.

The narrow side, flush side, goes towards the starter side of the engine."

Sorry, yes an RGS1000.

hopefully of some assistance ... drop the guide in (aligned with bolt holes) and then give it a wiggle. One orientation gives you a greater clearance than the other way around. Use the orientation with the larger free play.

I always mark the sump and the pedestal with a dot, adjacent on one side, saves the thinking each time, but be sure you have it right before you get out your punch.
