Cam cover oil leak.

81' Series 2 180 Jota oil leaking past primary drive side cam cover retaining bolt, I've replaced the copper crush washer but oil still passes up + passed the bolt. Has anyone on here experienced the same + fixed it. Thanks.

On mine, and according to the Operation and Maintenance Handbook Spare Parts List, there's a fibre washer under the copper washer.
Worth renewing the fibre washer, and annealing or replacing the copper washer, each time the cam cover is removed.

I didn’t spot the crack in the cam box cover when restoring my badly abused Drummer. I suffered the same annoying persistent leak from the cam box at the mounting screw. It took someone else with a sharp eye and their phone to magnify and spot the crack. It welded up nicely.

Thanks Hamish, I've read conflicting comments regarding if a fibre washer under the copper item is required but that's the first time I've seen a parts drawing showing one as listed. I have tried a fibre washer under the copper washer in the past but the leak once again appeared.

The fibre washer first appeared in the 1200 catalog iIrc. Later deleted as they're not particularly useful, they squash themselves to death. I find aluminium washers more effective than the copper variety, which are difficult to find in the correct 1mm thickness.

A new gasket can cure many leaks... they don't last forever.
