Has anyone heard from Cam? He hasn?t been here for a while.

As he lives by himself, it would be sad if he was lying on the edge off a cliff dying and nobody noticed.
 
I was thinking the same last night but I checked he was here on line yesterday, no sardonic comments though which was odd for him.
 
Thanks for your thoughts. I'm still alive, just haven't been doing much or had much to say on the forum. I think I must be in hibernation mode. Couldn't get out on a bike during lockdown. Now that we're allowed to venture out, it's too fuggin cold and wet!

My long-term house mate (old Burmese cat) died a bit over a month ago so I was truly on my own and a bit depressed for a while. He was a friendly little guy who was always happy to meet new people, as anyone who visited here would attest. Even Red took a shine to him, and he claimed he wasn't really a cat person. It was renal failure that finished him at the age of 16, but he'd had a good life. I still miss him.

The house was too empty and miserable without my little mate, so now there's a new cat called Erik. He's a Bengal breed (looks like a little leopard). He's only 7 months old and still a little unsure of his new surroundings, but will settle in soon enough.

Commiserations, Cam. I LOVE Burmese cats and they have personality in droves, some are real characters. I had a beautiful female called Tabby who was purchased, probably for a stack of dough, as a breeding dame. She came from a pedigree Qld champion but contracted cat flu and the lady breeder couldn't keep her. I was accepted as worthy (long haired loud Laverda rider, who coaxed her cranky house boss cat to sit on my lap - never been known to happen) but on the assurance she was desexed and with no fancy papers. Suited me, as i just wanted a friendly cat and that she was, a great companion. Someone stole her and I've never really gotten over it - 40 years on!

I  suppose one cat is ok, multiple cats are a worry. Being comfortable at home is the trick, whatever that takes.

Cats are tops, they give you the right amount of love, aren't needy and clean up after themselves.
sure maybe they dont actually care about you but they sure as hell are good at pretending they do.

Cam, my condolences for your passed away mate. I know how that feels as we lost our two cats within less than a year and still miss them, even though they both could also be very demanding...

congratulations to your new addition, looking really cute!

Sorry to hear about your loss Cam!
Cats can be complex characters and it takes time to understand them. When it clicks they can be soooo entertaining and great companions.
We have a fantastic black & white male cat called 'Floyd', which in these crazy times is interesting!!!!! We rescued him after his previous custodian was killed in a motorcycle accident - (car driver randomly turned across the road in his path). Floyd bucks the cat trend and loves nothing more than a tickle on the tummy! Normally that would be a loss of blood event eith most cats. He has just gone upstairs to kick my wife out of bed so he can have a peaceful sleep, so a bully too,  but we love him.

Blimey. Thanks guys for all condolences and understanding about cats. I was expecting some derogatory anti-cat comments like we've seen on here before (only good cat is a dead cat, etc.)

I love dogs too, but find it a bit easier to live with a cat. They're less demanding and happy to let you do your own thing like piss off on the bike all day. Dogs want to be with you all the time. That's why I bought my sidecar outfit - so I could take my dog (the one in my avatar) on rides with me. She's been pushing up daisies for several years now but I still have the sidecar outfit. I discovered that it's a fun thing and quite useful for carrying junk around. Anyway, a friend of mine has a dog that I regularly look after if she's away from home for any length of time, so I get my dog fix that way. New cat hasn't met the dog yet, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes.
