Cams

mark, as bob said, read again rob's post if you want to make power
if you just want the sound, high compression with big bore steel exhaust

interesting, the recent cam fad for the consumer muscle car world
are cams designed to sound like the rip snorters of olde but still let one run stock EFI

very appealing to the kids that used to skateboard through the mall parking lots
slapping cars and setting off alarms
now that they drive they can set off car alarms just driving through the neighborhood
cheap thrills

fwiw the axtell slots between the A11 and the 4C

nitrous with dellortos?
what, use a servo to pull the choke plungers up when the nitrous kicks in?

cheers,
scott

Blimey, Thankyou all for the replies, as always, some intelligent and some funny. I posed the question to get an idea of what to do engine wise, as you may have guessed, i like a camy motor. So Far the list comprises... Hi comp pistons, Mik carbs, head job, upgraded ignition, upgraded oil pump and possibly formula cams plus other bits and pieces. Keith will hopefully doing all the work so ultimately will be guided by his advice.Exhaust is waiting on the results from the lovely looking corsa jobbie. Cheers

Mark, the Holy Grail of tuning is to create a motor which isn't 'cammy' . Italian engines sometimes have cam timing which is biased towards top end power and this often manifests itself as a distinct power rush at the top end, usually at the expense of mid range power. A bike that drives well in the midrange will almost always be quicker, especially on the road, than one which develops power at the top end.
If you want your bike to go quick  as opposed to feel quick think very carefully about specification. Keith will advise, he knows what to do. :D

Easiest and cheapest way to feel faster everywhere is to buy a bigger rear sprocket. Lets you access the torque easier.

second to that is to loose (rider's...) weight I can tell you. On the other hand - there might be less potential on others than what I had (and have), but I can assure you, with 85 Kilos, the 74Hp my Jota papers claimed the bike would have 20 years ago were VERY fast and with the 141 KG I had in SPA last year, the 110HP it was improved to roughly felt like a piston ring was broken...  :-[ :-[ :-[

My eldest son "tuned" his Suzuki 750 GSXR by fitting a rear sprocket which reduced the top speed from an easilly atainable (recorded) 175MPH down to 145MPH, this cost him about seventy quid and all the locals in the gang still think that "Toms dad" is a super tuning wizerd, they all spent thousands on go faster goodies and exhausts and dyno time.At Santa Pod he could leave them all for dead, and have faster terminal speeds. On the highway, the same applied, he still has the bike (just, as its time to sell) eight years later, all the others have spent big bucks on 4 or even 6 replacements in that time, the touring abilty is not even compromised, economy does not suffer, it does not feel (more) buzzy, its still buzzy, just the same as before,he has visited the IOM (this year) and they go to at least one continental GP every year, him and his brothers.Cheap tuning and no one ever knew.
