Can't get Oil Pump Drive in

Oil pump gear is TDC. I tightened w/ Impact Wrench. Now I position oil pump drive but teeth would have to go into the oil pump gear & I can not freely move oil pump drive into position where dot is on top the arrows meet @ about 140 degress Oil drive side. Had to loosen it up again. Don't know what I am doing wrong. & then the timing mark on the oil pump drive is about 45 degress left of TDC. Must be right.

Lost Internet connection in middle of writing. When disassembling Oil pump drive comes off w/ peg on shaft @ 90 degress. Now when I try to reassemble my guess is the peg is caught in engine case. or I'm doing something else wrong.

Don't tighten the pump to the case completely, tightish but still capable of being moved..
Make sure the shaft goes in, then tighten the screws.
There's some leeway on the screws.

Forget the marks on the gears. Keyway at 12 o'clock when the engine is at TDC. It's timed.

Are you trying to fit the shaft into the oil pump after torquing up the crankshaft nut? It is far simpler to fit the shaft to the pump and tighten the oil pump screws before fitting the crank gear and torquing it up. I find that often the oil pump tries to bind a bit when tightening the screws and you need to make sure it stays free until all the screws are tight, so best done before fitting the crankshaft stuff.
As Paul says above, at TDC the keyway that drives the ignition will face straight up at 12 o clock.

AFAIK the method is :
1) with the oil pump cover loosely fitted, align the oil pump gears with the oil pump shaft & spigot.
2) remove the shaft and tighten up the oil pump cover (you can't get at the screws because the big gear is in the way)
3) refit the oil pump shaft and gear.
4) rotate the oil pump gear and crank so that you can fit the crank gear over the splines and the dots on each gear line up.
5) torque up the crank nut very tight, and bend over tab washer

You can of course do all of this with the crank nut already fitted (I hate removing that beast), but it requires counting teeth. I'll make a YouTube video as I'm about to do exactly that this week.

I have always managed to get the pump to sit well by some gentle persuasion with my trusty plastic hammer in the oil pump gear shaft itself I do tighten the screws bit by bit and it has been fine. The last one I did the hole for the shaft in the pump housing caused the shaft to bind, I relieved the hole in the pump housing carefully with emery until the shaft spun freely. I haven't encountered any with the gears binding as in the download.
Gareth, I have also a set-up for teeth counting for fitting the pump shaft without disturbing the crankshaft gear, but the motor I have apart now has the pin that drives the inner gears in the oil pump opposite to the keyway that drives the ignition rotor, which means that this keyway faces forward (9 o'clock) to get the shaft in and out of the oil pump. So any instructions would have to be for both 9 o'clock (unusual) and 3 o´clock which from my experience is far more normal.

Ok Its on & timed. I had thought the pump drive went on last. Didn't remember how I did it last time.
