carb insulators yes or no ?

Hmm, asking about insulators* tends to suggest your bike runs worse when it's hot.  Spill the beans on the symptoms!

Between the inlet stub and head?  It's been a while...

the bike starts instantly runs very well until you get in traffic and it gets hot or you stop for fuel ,then it spits back bangs out of the exhaust and runs like a pig ,then it will clear and run well again .it has had a new saches ignition fitted new coils, leads,  plugs and  caps the carbs have had all new jets and needles and the carbs have been ultrasonically cleaned

They insulator plates were there for a reason. Massimo wasn't known for being a nitwit. That these are missing doesn't necessarily mean they are your problem but at least you can remove one more potential cause.

if you have the carbs that directly slide onto the manifolds, it makes sense to have that insulating plate. If your carbs are rubber mounted, the rubber gives enough heat-insulation normally. But if you have them without airbox but with open bellmouthes, I would recommend using the insulation plates, as the rubber gets very worm and soft when you don't have the insulating plates and the carbs might simply drop off the rubbers. Had that with my Keihins when I first rubber-mounted them... ;)

Lemon, the resistors won't work effectively as insulators. The biggest problem is that they wont fit corectly and you will have the Mother of All Air Leaks.  :o

Dam Tom,need to rethink again.  :D

Dave did you win Coxs insulators?

Hi Merlin, PO here, those manifolds are a set of Red?s 36 mm with viton o rings for running mikuni?s. The bike ran a set of Red?s Mikuni?s and the rubber manifolds provided the insulation.  With the mikunis?s she absolutely flew, even with the old electronics.

I too tried ultra sounding the dellorto?s, but they are shot, would not even run, so I junked them and bought the Mikuni kit from Red. That?s why the dells were in the box of dead bits.

Consider Mikunis as they are a much better carburettor and really give the triple motor a shot in the arm. Your inlet ports are approx 35 mm and stepped to Red?s 36mm inlet manifold so 36mm carburettors will work better than the standard 32 mm.

If you want to stick to dellorto?s then MarkQld has come up with a good solution, using a combination of new 36mm dellortos? with the original throttle linkages.

Plenty of Dellorto carb banks sitting under the benches of those who have gone to Miks- should be cheap to try another set :D

thanks for the replies ,I would love to fit mikunis but I cant afford the ?900 for the kit .I am going to try the insulators and see what happens .If anyone has a good  set of carbs they want to sell at a reasonable price PM me , (I could do a swap for a set of jota bars )

If your Mirage carbs are like mine and sleeve onto their inlet stubs it defintley worth checking the carb bodies because they crack and cause an air leak...  An easy way to do this is to squeat WD40 onto the inlets and check the exhaust smoke.
