Carb slide question.

Ever since I've owned my 83 Jota I hane noticed that on full throtle the carb slides don't quite fully clear the carb ventury!, ie there's part of the slide that can still be seen when the throttle is wound fully open.

Is this normal or can it be corrected?  I've had a good gander but can't sus out why.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

then something is very likely bent on the cross rail that bolts to the carbs, open very carefully and you will see where the quadrant is fouling on something nearby.

Are there some longer slides out there?  Maybe stick a finger in and see if you can push the slide all the way up first.

There are different length carb slide connecting rods/cables out there.
180s tend to have rods, 120s tend to have cables (resist specific vibes better allegedly).
I found a longer cable in my bike once, came from a Guzzi I think.

Bob, A couple of possibilities worth checking;
Worn bushes in the carb tops [unlikely due to the low miles but you never know] Accumulated slop in the linkage/bushes can cause the pronblems you refer to.
Has the spring in the offending carb become unseated and is now coil bound?
The chrome tabs the adjusters sit on can become bent and this can cause one carb not to lift properly

I'd go back to basics and start eliminating things from your enquiries. Disconnect the cables and remove springs, re-assemble and check the slides go up and down and clear the bores properly. Investigate from there. This kind of work is always better done on a bench.

How are you checking the carbs are wide open. If by the throttle, I would manually pull the quadrant on the carby bar to the stop and see if they go up any further. If they do it might be you are not getting enough travel on you throttle tube. The other thing I have found is that there are several different versions of the lever from the throttle bar that holds the wire or link rod to the slide (see pix). I have had a couple of carby groups come in where I think a carby has been changed and the levers were different lengths. This stopped one carby in a different spot and its rise rate was different to the other two the group could not be synchronised. Note one arm has a button on each side. The number of buttons marks the different arms. I have not got any idea of the decode though.
