I adjusted the Delorto square slides due to warmer weather. Now its a little longer to start and will die cold. When it gets to normal operating temp its fine. I only turned top screws slightly. Did not turn any mixture screws. Pulled plugs and a little carbon on one.
Also I am ready to put a case together. Should seals go on before top fits into place? Or should you put seals on after case is tightened? I've never done this before.
Then Mud Dovers got into a the header of an Sf that has the cross pipe on top. Ok Mud Dovers are an insect wasp in Texas that make nests out of mud. Surprised they got in. My garage is clean enough. Saw one nest at the top and got that out. But it is bugging me that they could have made one in the center x pipe. Ok I set the pipes top down and water blasted w/ garden hose. Water did not go out the top and came out the other side at a good pressure boogie. But it still bugs me...Was thinking of Petrol or Muratic acid. Ev

Put pipes back on, pull a wheelie downhill at 7,400rpm in 2nd. The mud wasp home should fire out the back like a bullet from a 44 magnum.
Mutter; Go ahead punk, mud my day.

The top screw adjusts the slack in the cable. It might affect your idle speed if the slide doesn't seat on the throttle stop screw when the throttle is closed.
There should be a throttle stop screw on the side of the carb just above the fuel line fitting. If throttle stop screws aren't fitted, then the idle adjustment is the cable adjustment fittings that you tweaked.

Feel free to experiment with mixture screws. Screw them in until they seat, counting the number of turns (should be about 1.5 turns). That'll give you a reference point to return to if you bugger it up.

Probably doesn't mean a lot with modern fuels

What case are you talking about?

I don't think muriatic acid is a good idea. It might not do any damage to the steel pipes, but could take the chrome off. I doubt it would shift the mud anyway. If you just fill the pipes with water and let it soak for a while, the mud will eventually liquify and come out.

PS, I think it's a mud dauber, not dover.

Those insects have killed a lot of people. Saw an episode of Air Crash Investigations and these insects made a home in the air intake for the altimeter of a jet plane, they had erratic instrument readings and crashed into a mountain. So don't get too high on the bike till you fix it

Does anyone alter jetting between the seasons? I have never done that. It sounds like you need a step by step basic setup a la Dellortoman suggestion.

It's called a Pitot tube manometer
