Those tools have been around for a long time. I used to work with a locksmith friend who could get into a (70's-80's) car in about 10 seconds. Slim Jim was number one tool back then but lots of ways to get in now.

Good story from about 30 years ago. Watson Lake, Yukon. Tourist locks his keys in his car. Calls local towing company as owner is having supper. Owner says I can be there in 45 minutes as I am having supper. Tourist says "I have to get in my car NOW! ..... I want you to come NOW!" Owner reluctantly comes and looks at car .... pulls out Slim Jim and opens the door in about 10 seconds. He then says "That will be $50 please". Tourist says "$50? That took you 10 seconds! I'm not paying that!" Owner then locks and closes door and says "Okay". Next day tourist is pleading to get car unlocked. Finally settles for $200 and an "I'm sorry".

Years ago well before mobile phones I was camping on a remote beach at Easter Time and with a massive hangover happening I discovered I had locked the keys in the car. The only option I had was a Concrete Block I found and used to break the passenger window. My one and only car breaking into tail.

You can also get scanning devices for the chip in modern cars. Worth a few € and very efficient, notably with German cars which are all the rage amongst people interested in those sort of things.
