Hi Soren, the Marzocchi main stand is 2 cm longer than the Ceriani main stand. See the pic from laverdaparadies.de enclosed.

What gives the Marzo bike the extra height (and cornering clearance)? Just longer forks? Or longer shocks as well to retain the geometry?

I have seen more triple frame with front end collision than without. The result is a bend upper frame tube. The worst one was a 1000 3CL with 55 mm shorter wheelbase than original. Under hard braking the front fender was touching the downpipes. Ciao, Gert

Ceriani type.

I've come across many similar. One clown even went the distance and cut out a bit of the front mudguard bracket/fork brace to clear the centre header.

Once test-rode a freshly restored 3C, looked beautiful. Returned and told the owner the frame was bent, he didn't believe me. I just pointed to the fresh dents I had put into the header... :oops:

I bought an sfc1000 out of Scotland maybe ten years ago and had it shipped to me in Australia. Bought it based on the photos supplied and some recommendations from a few saying it was a good well looked after bike. When I got the bike home and undressed it the reality set in. Things like no battery tray,only some many old plywood and then the bend in the top frame tube that was plain to see. Upon placing a 600mm straight edge on top there was 10mm of clearance under each end🫢.
So I did some measurements and checked them against published figures re wheelbase and discovered that the sfc1000 was 20mm shorter between axles than the published figures for my Jota. Anyway had the frame straightened but had the head angle brought back to Jota head a like figures. Was a sweet steering bike after a lot of money spent on it. I sold it on because the vibes in the right bar were affecting me on long trips, the new owner loves that big red thing😂.

Out of interest, were all triple frames pre-RGS of the same steering head geometry? I know Marzos were longer than Ceris but were the rear shocks longer to compensate and retain same geometry?

Re vibration through handlebars, as an experiment i've filled my R1 clipons with shore 40 silicone. The bar portion is tubular alu. Not that my bars vibrate enough to giove me grief, but i'm intersted to see if it makes a diff.

Was that the SFC 1000 that Keith and I picked up from the Borders area in Scotland?
I had a 20 foot container I was shipping back to Aussie with 3 of my own bikes plus the SFC and two Mud pumps

I remember the owner shedding a tear when we were loading the bike in the Van
 
Yes Red, that was the beast😂. I always said to people when asked to describe the bike that it was like going home with a beautiful woman and then when she was undressed you were disappointed. That bike held many little horrors but it all worked out in the end.

A bloke who did frame straightening in Brisbane got the job to straighten a 3CL crash frame, despite the quote saying it should be replaced. It came back bent three times after his attempts, with him refusing to try more as his straightening jig was pretty well fucked after repairing it after it bent with each failed attempt. Big hassle with the insurance company.
