The following two pics of the Ceriani internals show a slightly different component assembly sequence.
However, I'm not sure that this would be the cause of your problem.

G'day Maurice, when my mechanic mate rebuilt the cerianis on my twin he told me the Green Book had the layout wrong. I was a bit sceptical, but a quick scan of the forum showed that he was right.
Not sure what bit is wrong though.
S'pose that's not much help  ::)

P.S. Are you going to Island Classic?

Hey Tom if I put it together the same as the first picture it will work  :D(with the little spring and top hat trapped between the valve discs) the top pic is the same as the green book and will not work. :'(
Pat I may go over to the island for a day.

So what you are saying is the 2nd of Tom's pictures (the bottom one) is the correct sequence but that his first photo (the top one) is the same sequence as in your photo and this will not work?  ???

Yes the bottom picture works, the top picture is the same as what is in the green book and it will not allow the assembly to fit into the machined out section behind the circlip groove in the bottom of the fork leg.

It is important to note the direction of the brass spring loaded valve in the bottom pic (the part that is incorrectly placed outside the valve assembly in the first pic). It is to block the holes in the disc it mates to and force the oil through the damper rod on rebound stroke.

Hello, Maurice.

I have the same problem with one of my spare
fork legs.
I guess, the recess' edge is crumbled and blocks the
rod. Perhaps it could help to treat the rod's end
(on the right) with a file (or lathe) so that it gets
a slightly tapered form.
Might slip in then, haven't tried out yet.

Or drill 6 x 8mm holes in the sucker while you have it apart and add a Racetech Gold Emulator.

Maurice,

Apologies, I got muddled & posted the wrong image for pic 1 which is, of course, the same as your original pic.
This is the pic that I meant to post.
The intention was to show two sources with the pieces put together differently to yours, and that maybe those were correct.
From the feedback, this seems to be the case.
I'll be stripping mine down soon, so you have pioneered this for me!

Sorry to revive this old topic but it is relevant.
I have the standard 38 mm Ceriani forks on a 75 SF3. Whilst taking off the fork lowers to replace them, the left hand side damper rod components (bottom bush and spring etc.) fell out due to the bottom circlip being missing. Looking around I eventually decided that the order of components would be as shown in the 2nd photograph. I checked this against the right hand components which were still in place and they were in this order as well.
The only question left to be answered is which way up does the bottom bush go. One end has a bevelled edge, the other has an increased diameter bore for a part of the bush length. It looks like the bevelled end goes next to the damper washer assembly. Is this correct? I think this is what is shown in picture 2 but I am not sure.
Thanks in advance,
Pete

Not quite sure what you mean. If it is a bevelled inner edge (slightly conical) of the end bush, this faces downwards and meets the conical top of the bottom-out piece that sits in the bottom of the slider. The retaining circlip sits against this champhered end. (if my memory is correct).

Tippie that is indeed what I mean - the chamfered end of the bottom end bush. If you look at the 2nd picture from Tom3C75 it looks as if this edge is facing away from the bottom circlip, towards the bottom perforated washer, I'm confused!  (dunno)

Tippie, many thanks that's exactly the info I needed  :D .

Now all I have to do is find someone who stocks the damper parts as (due to the left hand internals rattling around in the slider) some of them are a bit bent. At least I know the right hand one will be correct!

Many thanks again.
