Ceriani fork seals?

Rebuilding the Ceriani forks on a triple. One fork had two 7mm thick seals and the other leg has one 9mm thick seal plus a 1mm washer and the seal was glued in as the OD was not rigid as you could bend the entire seal. Wolfgang sent me 10mm thick seals. The distance from clip to the bottom of the recess where the seal fits is 14mm. So a 10mm seal would be a little too thin?

I have rebuilt many Ceriani forks from the 1960's but never a 1970's Ceriani fork. What seals would a Laverda triple Ceriani fork have when the bike was new? One 10mm seal or two 7mm seals? Is the 10mm seal OK or do I need to make a 4mm washer to keep it from moving?

The side with the two 7mm seals was not leaking. The 10mm side was leaking a lot of oil.

Original was two 38x50x7 seals (35x47x7 in 35mm forks iirc). I have for decades used one 38x50x10.5 twin lip seal in each side, just inserted until I could get the circlip in, no spacers over or under. I have never had one move in any way. With the original two seals I used to have to replace them quite regularly, but for some reason the ones I use now last really well.

OK, the the Wolfgang supplied seal is what I will use. It is an SKF so should be good quality.

By the way a number of Yamaha's from the 1980's and 1990's use 38 x 50 x 11mm fork seals. A set with dust seals is only $8.69 on Amazon.

This is usually where I post the video of the really expensive hugely reduced stiction SKF seal kits, but it's somewhere here on the site. Found it. They are for sale at Dam Laverda

Yeah hugely impressive Vince. Certainly stiction is a problem, especially with double seals, and made suspension tuning a lot more difficult for me. It'll be single seals from now on, although I haven't priced those flash seals you're advertising. Do you get a commission? 😉🤣🤣

Err no, I just like finding the best option of tech to fit. What lots bork at is the cost of $50 for each fork leg, but to me, their performance is 100% worth it. The kit I fitted is made to fit Paoli 38mm forks but also works on Cer and Maz. I went the whole hog and fitted both the seal and their dust wips both beneath the curcip but that requires some grinding on the dust wipe to fit. They are made of steel covered by green rubber. I also replaced the big gatters with the correct rubber caps over the curcips. I wanted to get my lower forks Hard Anandised, as recommended by Race Tech but ended up only doing that on my Pantah Maz forks and that hasn't turned a wheel so cannot comment on how effective the anandising is. The Cer forks with these seals and not hard anodised are pretty bloody good. Way better than originally, smoother and more compliant action.

Fair enough. Personally I can't recommend emulators enough, Sports Valve being my choice.

If Steve Winne had those Sports Valves in the market a bit earlier I would have jumped on them but Race Tech were the only ones when I bought them, they only came adjustable for Compression. Those Kiwi ones are very clever, being both Compression and Rebound adjustable plus being easier to adjust with that big T-bar. Too late now, it took years to get the race tech ones dialled in, the very early ones came stock with 1 only drilled high-speed compression hole, later ones came with 2 holes, mine now has 4 holes drilled. Wish I had learned that in a more timely manner.
