My 750SF1 has stopped charging.
Troubleshooting so far.
Removed the drive belt
The alternator spinn (100rpm) when D+ connects to battery +.
When DF connects to battery - it stopp spinning.
How do I proceed my troubleshooting ?

You did check before doing that, that there was no charge arriving at the battery, and then, no charge arriving at the regulator?
Then check dynamo with it turning between D+ and earth or D-.

If all the test are negative, you need to check the dynamo itself.

How did you deduce that it wasn't charging?

At the previous start, the charging lamp went out, but now it continues to light up. Therefore, I have started troubleshooting why it does not charge. No current on dynamo when turning, between D + and earth or D

You have a voltmeter and ampmeter? Have you checked voltage at the battery terminals with everything connected and the engine running? Are you certain that the regulator is earthed and all the other wires are well connected and look ok. Have you checked amps on the B+ wire between the battery and the regulator. If the wire to the charging lamp is touching earth before the bulb it will prevent charging, you can remove the wire to the charge lamp temporarily to eliminate this. Here is some other info. You should not have to worry about the polarising bit he refers to, your genny will not have suddenly changed polarisation.

Tested the alternator without the regulator and got 30v 😁
With regulator and without charging lamp no rise in volt on battery . (It dropped from 12,5 to 12,4)
I probably have a faulty regulator. 😭
Suggestions for affordable replacements?

Hi Göran,
I remember that I had a faulty ring terminal at my regulator - it was just half broken and took me a while to identify. Once found it was easy sorted on the campground while we visited a 24h race in Spa Francorchamps in 89:

:)

Have you checked all wirings to and from the regulator?

Cheers,
Jo

If, and only if the wiring checks out ok, you can open up the regulator and make sure that the points are not stuck, and clean.

Found an old honest generator workshop which stated that the generator was ok and that the regulator was not working.
So I have to look for a replacement regulator. Probably goes for a solid state variant

He looks a bit like my old boss, I bet he knows exactly where every esoteric tool and brush and scrap of wire is within arms reach, without even looking 😁

Interesting thing happened to the solid state regulator on the SF 2 in the rain. The old original reg was over charging. The new bosch solid state was still charging nicely, but the red light on the dash was flashing. On, off, on, off, continuously. I pulled over, thinking maybe the belt was slipping, loose, or something, no, it was ok. Started off again, light was gone. Not sure what it was.

Original Bosch has D+61, new one has D+, coming from the genny, and 61, going to the light.

Anybody running a modern solid state regulator?

I really like my permanent Voltage metre on the dash, it allows real-time checking for impending issues and that's how I found out my regulator was allowing overcharging before I damaged my battery. That was fixed with a replacement Regulator. My bike is a tri[le so no idea on Marty's question.

D+ 61 is the common terminal for both the light and D+. Some solid state regs have a separate terminal for the light, but it should be the same running the light to D+ regardless of the type of regulator. The generator light bulb can earth through D+ when the generator is not producing anything.

My S.S. Regulator has been working fine for the last couple of years. Like Vince, I also have a small digital volt meter near the dash. The 11.7 volts showing was "in hindsight" a sign that the 1 month old SSB AGM battery was about to drop a cell.
