Yeah, there has to be a better alternative guard available to negate the need to destroy the original guard - plastic from a donor bike or fibreglass aftermarket.

I bought a new stainless one off an italian guy on ebay who makes copies of Laverda mudguards, it was around £200 all up but i was happy with the quality of it. I then used my original as a template for all the holes etc and then shortened/modified the copy to suit. My nice original is safely stored away in case i ever want to put it back to its original setup
