Try Tamiya clear orange paint, sold in hobby stores. Sand off the cloudy bits and polish with 1000/1500 grit then spray with the clear orange. There is very little pigment, so it will take a few coats, but that means it is not easy to go too far. I just repainted the indicator lenses on my Lotus replica and it worked a treat although it took about a dozen light coats. Because there is so little color it is easy to get drips if you spray too much at one time: many light coats is the way to go.
BTW, Tamiya also sell a clear red that works for brake lights.
