Club Laverda NSW Brass Monkey Run. 28-29th May

Second best ride of the year and I am not there, I made it to Buladearla had breakfast and turned BACK, operative word BACK. A good while BACK on a Sunday ride, I hit an unseen pothole from the rain and twigged my BACK. I thought it was on the mend but as this was my first ride since then, more than a month BACK, sitting on the bike had me assume the same position as when I had hurt myself and flexing resulted in it feeling like a knife going in, and the same happened swinging my leg over getting on and off. It was bad enough just cruising up the expressway, doing the bends on The Oxley or the rough bits around Dungog I just couldn't imagine, So I headed BACK. Luckily with a full tank I made it the 260ks BACK to Sydney but needed a splash and dash at Hornsby, by then the Iveprofin and Paracetamol tablet I took at Buladeala had kicked in and I could get on and off for fuel very slowly. So I probably need some Physio, been there over the years for work-related Sciatica although this feels a little different, there is a bit of Hip in it as well. BTW who would have guessed Brett, I am not coming, would turn up. 100% a sure bet he would.

And just to add, what hitting that pothole in offroad terms is called doing a G Out, big body compression on a bump. Don't want to disappoint my Dirt Bike fans out there, hi Nick. Time to buy better shocks. I am looking forward to some new glasses next week and some cataract surgery on my one good eye soonish. I didn't see that pothole at all in the grey weather that day.

What a top weekend away that was,
First casualty was poor Vince who turned back at Bulahdelah with a sore back, total bummer Vince.
Next was Nick who had alerted his presence to the local Hwy Patrol:rolleyes: so a bit of pain there.
Once the boring Hwy stuff was over it was good times indeed with the Oxley providing plenty of joy.
Rocked into the Royal Cafe, Toni as usual being the bestest hostess and also the local lads had a shed full of vintage bikes, how good was that.

Dinner with the Queenslanders was a heap of laughs, especially as Brett (what would I know) Mahoney had made a surprise dash from close by to Eastern Creek to be there.
Needless to say , the laughs did carry on into the night and then when the shots rounds started it just got even funnier.(y):):)
Next day was another good day of riding with the occasional boring Hwy stuff just incase you were having too much fun.

Here are some pics.

Tom, what was Nicks's number and circumstances for the bust, and only just him alone? It's always good to hear what tactics they are using to avoid this stuff, I haven't seen a Cop on an expressway in a very long time, and absolutely none actively waiting and hiding. They do sit and use AMPR and go after what that system alerts to and I suppose sailing past 25 over would get a response. Highways yes but expressways not so much. I hardly dropped below 120 heading back to Sydney and was passed a hell of a lot by considerably faster cars, average speeds on expressways closer to Sydney are a fair bit more than the limit for a long while.

118 in a 100 zone - done for 10+ over the limit - it is a brief 100kph zone around Taree - in fact plod pointed out that the road returned to 110kph about 100 metres from where he stopped me. And I do think, as others suggested, they tend to linger in that area. Can't believe that after trailing along behind everyone for most of the time my moment of exuberance was coupled with not paying attention...🤬

Taree outskirts have been a happy hunting ground since I was a kid, it used to have a huge 60k section where they would hide. just like all getting up there in size towns. Tamworth, Goulbourne etc. Be interesting to hear Chris,s experience doing big Ks about in the big rigs. Borderline unlucky Nick, they hardy bother with 10 over and that's one of my gripes, to me it's piddling when away from populations.

I dunno about NSW, but cops in Tassie aren't supposed to use their speed measuring devices within 200m of a change of speed limit. I'd check if I were you. All their procedures and guidelines for speed measurement are available through "freedom of information" laws. You might have a get out of jail free card.

I wonder if their calibrated eyeball is considered speed measuring equipment. They trot out the old furphy of being trained to estimate speed professionally by eye. One of the best deterrents I have was adding the way better mirrors a while back, plus I have some rubber pucks to add 20mm under them to reduce the elbow blocking they have now. It helps to actually see them coming up behind even if that's probably too late to avoid the ticket.
