I arrived early, probably an hour as I hate riding in traffic, I hate getting up early but I hate traffic more. While waiting I see 2 bike cops pass the meeting spot and just before we left another went past making 3 ahead so we knew they were around and hunting. Approx 15 minutes later we left.
There were 6 or 8 of us quite close in a line doing what I would guess was the same speed, I saw something out of my peripheral vision to my extreme right. Something caught my fleeting attention but I was watching where I was going and the bloke ahead of me. I noticed someone passing 1 or 2 others in our group but I didn't notice who that was. 30 or 40 seconds later I suddenly see a bike cop lights ablaze right next to me and pulling past me tight in the same lane next to double lines as a car passed heading the other way. I think O great here we go again one random cop is pulling us all over for a mass bust. He passes maybe 2 others ahead of me and I guess waves Tom over. I have learned from past experience that I don't interact unless I get specifically pointed at as volunteering is not smart so I keep going and everybody else did as well, Tom's buddy on the Suzuki stopped a k or 2 after. That's all I specifically saw myself. Apparently, everybody else plainly saw the cop bright as day standing fully exposed with a radar gun on the side of the road. I did not, maybe I was closer to the bloke in front of me to pick the cop out. Don't know. He must have had bloody good vision to pick one bloke out of the group and zero in on him and catch him out like that. My first thought was maybe it was passing on double lines, I had the impression we were all doing similar speeds, but I don't have a cop brain so who knows? I didn't see anything particularly dangerous, like the arsehole who passed me at big speed in the same lane later in the day.
