Club Laverda NSW Rego day & BBQ 27/11/22

Come and be a part of this day that just keeps getting bigger! It's like an Italian bike show, with a free BBQ, free coffee for CIMAA members, I'll even do your rego for free! How good is that!!!! We will also hold the Club AGM, so you can come and vote for your favourite rider, maybe even win a trophy for best Laverda, or most miles ridden in a year,(I may have that one the bag.....).

From 8.30 at the usual spot in Silverwater park, just under the bridge. Weather has been ordered. See you there.

You need to be more positive Vince, never got to anything like that temp.

good turn up, with plenty of Lavs, Had the CLNSW AGM at the end of it, usual suspects got re elected.
Brett did get nominated and passed as a life member for his services to the marque, well deserved indeed 👍 :) .

Chris did turn up a little late and then his RGS promptly attacked poor Pete's Jota:rolleyes:
which then tried its hardest to clean up a mint Ducati next in line.....
Luckily that didn't happen, no doubt that would have made the SBS news.

Looks like Chris is denying any responsibility.
Knowing Chris' record with gum trees, I reckon he's claiming that a dead branch fell out of a tree, knocking his bike into Pete's.

I brought a hat, wore a vented jacket and carried a thermos with chilled water and the weather didn't cooperate. It was warm and cloudy instead of baking hot. I had a pleasant cruise after softening the compression in the new shocks a bit, mostly 5 gears, missing 1st on occasion, and having some comfortable weather despite the forecast. I was leaning on a ute when that horrible bike tipping over sound happened, biggest issue was that side of the car park had a distinct off-camber slope away from the bikes being parked. Gutted for those involved. The food was bloody brilliant, the T-shirts came in my size and the chats were good fun. What more do you need? I did my usual list of stuff to fix after the ride but it's getting really short these days. It was great to see some not often seen blokes come out today. My favourite two bikes non-Laverda, The Moto Martin and that custom Guzzi up near the Coffee truck. It had a very strange gadget mounted just above its right Muffler apparently it was an engine breather oil container. It was a great day out considering not a huge distance covered for a change. Nice to not be beaten to death with much more compliant shock settings as well.

TC - how does a left hand mounted side-stand lead to a bike falling over on its ride side. Methinks there is bias in that explanation, and if not, I'm curious as I'm a fan of side-stands as you know.

I don't know either Nick, didn't actually see it, just heard from Chris.
Yes , as you know I am biased against side stands, Laverda's just look wrong on a side stand.
Only my opinion that's all.
 
Maybe, but for an aging bunch of riders of top-heavy motorbikes they are pretty well a lifesaver to me. Love my Kawasaki stand. I got off my bike using the side stand and asked Graham to spot me on the off-camber side as I heaved mine onto its centre stand so mine didn't topple over. BTW did you see Neils 120 Jota with its reversed centre stand, lifting foot lever on the right side of the bike? Too much for me, I just cannot do right sides on bikes, holding pushing or using stands, that really is WRONG to my brain.

Not very often I deny responsibility Cam, in this case I fully accept it.
The road was inclined resulting in the bike being almost vertical on the side stand. Within seconds the bike settled on its suspension and toppled before I had time to place it on the centre stand. Shit happens.
Sincere Apologies to Pete.
The bike originally had a side stand that had been reduced in length 20mm which made the bike tip over too far in my opinion, I changed the stand over to a correct length one which inevitably meant that in this situation the bike was more vertical .
I'll now shorten the stand 10mm which should strike a happy medium.
It makes me wonder if the side stands were of different lengths and fitted to suit individual bikes depending on the angle of the bracket welded to the frame? Just a thought.
 
That's a bugger Chris. nothing am few $$$$$ won't sort out!!
Like TC, I'm not a fan of side stands. My GS BM has one but very rarely use it except when fully loaded usually on some fucked up track somewhere.

Problem is Rob I'm getting too old and feeble to hold the bike whilst de mounting to haul it on the centre stand. Need a side stand as an aid.
May need a zimmer frame next, hah hah.
 
Some Vincents had a lever to put down the centre stand whilst seated.
I agree with the comments concerning side stands and age. I even welded an extra long tab on the SF2 so as to get the stand down with my heel whilst on the bike. Otherwise, one of these days, I won't be able to get off, or the bike will fall over in the process.

You should have seen me trying to get on my bike loaded with camping gear a few months back. I needed to push the bike parallel to a concrete gutter to get enough height to swing a leg over. just not enough bend available in hips and knees. That's with a big tank bag and a bag over the pillion part of the seat. I don't know what I was thinking, why would anyone need a small tent a sleeping bag and an air mattress to go camping when a large plastic bag is all you need? And that was with a side stand.
 
I can see your problem Vince. You'd have to be a ballet dancer to get your leg over that lot.

Apparently armoured knights in the Middle Ages needed to be hoisted onto their horses with a crane. I reckon if you beef up and extend that luggage rack a bit more, you could fit a small Hiab type crane.
