Coil brackets (1200) and mounting

The coils in the 1979 1200 Jota America are Dyna (slightly larger than stock) and they were installed with a couple of sheet metal pieces that mounted them to existing holes. It was ugly so I decided to copy what I think are the proper mounts . These items I borrowed  are a pair of identical brackets for the double coil and four identical pieces for the single coil. These plates sandwich the coils and have mounting holes that line up to the frame.  I will change the single coil to a 2 piece arrangement like the double unless there is some good reason to need four.

My question is are the plates mounted inside or outside of the frame bracket. If someone had pictures that would be very helpful. It looks like if they are mounted outside the coils would be very close to the tank and if mounted inside it looks very tight...

TIA

Thanks - I see the problem, on the Dyna coils the leads point to the inside, which is why it appears tight. I will finish the single coil mounts today and see if I can make it so the leads don't interfere with each other.

get some of those lovley heavy duty ND coils, they come cheap, the single ones are used (in a bank of three) on Suizuki two stroke triples, and the double one (in a bank of two) on Suzuki fours, EG the GS1000, they are easy to fit new Ht leads to and are of a quality that is rarley seen today.

Decided to save the Dyna coils for a future project...(coming soon) and using the coils Clem suggests...one more week of waiting...but still a few things to do before the initial run...
Thanks for all the replies...with limited OT :-*

The old style big green Dynas do fit but you got to sort of stack them.  I use the Mini Dynas generaly as they are a little easyer to package.

Mmm, nice solution Keith, but what about on a RG series where one needs 3 of the little buggers. I fiddle every time I'm home for a weekend, and still have not found a way of mounting 3 mini DYNA's within the original area.  Any ideas gratefully recieved.

Stack them too, got some pics of the actual brackets on the other computer but this should give you the idea...

It's good to see a picture. The brackets look pretty simple to make and are a clean solution which is what I had wanted. The coils on my bike had been installed with a couple of sheet metal "extanders" and the coils were mounted diagonally back fro the headstock to the frame brackets...it was kinda ugly. My first attempt was to make a cnc copy the factory mounts but after I made the first mount I realized the wires going to the middle would not work. In the middle of the small exercise a very late 180 Jota came up for sale so I decided to use the Dynas on that when it arrives and use the mounts I made to use what is more of a factory replacement style..there could be a Jota America coming up for sale in the Pacific Northwest...

Thanks Keith,
is it possible to get the cam cover off with the lower coil in place, or do the coli(s) need to be removed ?
Reason I ask is I'm fiddling with new Dyna coils on both the RGS and CORSA, and for some reason the CORSA is much tighter getting the cam cover off.

Hi David, cam cover comes off no bother, but then I always remove them backwards on either triple type after first removing the carbs, takes less time than trying to wriggle them off and out sideways.

Final mounting. Bought some "standard coils from Wolfgang and made up some "factory-like" brackets.
I can make files available if anyone is interested.
