Reggie,
what beautiful scenery - where is that location / region / road...........

'tis the Applecross road. North West Scotland. Whole area is pretty stunning. Views over Skye and the Inner Hebs too.

Hats off to Reggie for Photoshopping in the blue skies...........  ;)

West Highlands of Scotland laddie, the road is Bealach na Ba (Pass of the Cattle) between Applecross and Kishorn.

The loch you can see as we come down is technically a fjord and was once a hive of activity while they built the worlds biggest moveable man made structure there- the Ninian oil storage platform (600,000 tons).  3000 men worked there, some living on an old New Zealand passenger ferry.  It's sister ship (the Wahine?) sank off Wellington (it was a shit ship) so they towed the other one here as accommodation.  God knows what they all did of a Saturday night...

It's the highest motorable road in the UK, and respect is due to Mr Nairn for getting a 750 SFC up there in the pissing rain one time, those bends are quite tricky!

Bah, as if- ask Red, Piet, Keith, Rob et al, it's sunny in Applecross!  On that run we went  anti clockwise round the Applecross peninsular from Sieldaig and had fabulous views out towards Harris and Lewis

Perspective. Today is 14th May. Met office gives....sleet, max temp 1C, feels like -5C.

OK, I'm a pussycat.

Sometimes it's sunny though...  SimonR501, Laverdakeith, Sonicboom and Robadmin enjoy alfresco beer at Applecross May '12.

Oh don't get me wrong. I love NW Scotland. I've done the Cuillin Ridge (and nearly died of thirst)... woken up in a snowed in tent on Ben Eighe (in June!!!), sea kayaked etc. etc. et...bloomin'...cetera.

But you've got to admit....That Weather's a lottery.

When you roll a double six, it's unbeatable.

I have a week free end of May and no plans. May roll the dice again :)

True, true and true.  It's very frustrating when you come all this way and can't see a damn thing, but happily most people are expecting the worst and are mildly surprised when the weather is doing anything other than pissing down.

If yer up this way gimme a shout and I'll see if I can slip the traces long enough to meet for a pint.

I did have a bit a trouble hauling the Jota 120 around those bends!!!!!

Beautiful place and a great road, brings back some very happy memories.
You did a great job organising the route Richard, and a great job all around.

Talking of Mr Nairn, here he is admiring the scenery earlier on I believe, as you can see the weather was awful!

We have the 'War and Peace Show' within catapult distance from our house this year, complete with WW2 re-enactment groups, tanks the lot. It's big!!!

I have seen these type of guys in action and it's gobsmacking, everything looks perfect down to the last detail - even the machine guns fire properly (blanks of course).
They seem a bit crackers, but I suspect they are bank managers or something in real life.

I take it from this vid that they are on a recuitment drive:

Welcome to the Grossdeutschland Aufkl?rungs

The point is thet no metter how much sambody is superior, thet dos not mean much.

We have a say " wars are not won with shiny wepons, you win them with brave warriors ".

Early in 1995 we were doing some pre-season testing in Rijeka. The Yugoslavian Army (Croatian Army?...my knowledge of who was in charge at the time isn't the best, Romeo help out here!) commenced live fire exercises in the hills and mountains just next to the track. There was an interesting mix of sounds of 250 Aprilias on the pipe with artillery and heavy machine guns in the background. This went on for a couple days and just as we were finishing up a battalian sized group of paras came into the pits. All of them had that look of having "seen the Elephant". Once their Officer found out we were a GP team their curiosity calmed them down enough so you weren't afraid to breathe. Scary bastards.

I have a mate who is deeply into this and although I love him, in a bloke way,
I have to  say I find it all at bit strange that anybody should want to go around
