Correct wiring of the ignition coils, leads.

Almost completed a thorough review of my SF1 after 20 years idle. I cannot determine which coil drives the left spark plug and which drives the right plug. I read through previous ignition threads and it appears it does not matter. Each lead can drive either sparkplug. Is this correct?
 
Yes it is correct. You have to choose the plug lead that sparks when the cylinder in question is on compression stroke - if you try it and it makes popping and farting noises, swap them over. Very simple. Or - with the plugs removed - you can just determine which cylinder is on compression when the spark plug fires.
 
reminds me of going into a BBC staff restaurant to be greeted by the commisionair who asked "where are yur badges" quick as a flash my assistant quipped "badges? we dont need no stinking badges" (we had them in our pockets but had forgotten to re-afix them to clothing after changing) we all laughed loudly at that one!

I wonder how many know the origins of this?

later that week there was a placard outside the resto which read "contractors are no longer permitted to use this facility, this does not apply to GPC Engineering and its employees" a case of serious abuse by lazy workmen who entered in filthy clothing (we allways removed overalls and washed before entering) and ruining the highly subsidised and very pleasant 24hr facility for (almost) all contractors.
