Seat-of-the-pants dyno used to tell me the 120 had more low down and midrange and that the 180 didn't get into it's stride until midrange onwards.

Correct..... but the 120 keeps on going where the 180 runs out of steam!

If ever a bike needed a rev limiter.
It was all too easy to over rev the 120 if you did not keep your eye on the tacho when giving it the berries.
Don't ask me how far into the red it went...  :o :o :o

For an on-the-road comparison, my mate on his P1-equipped Corsa used to comment that my '79 Jota had so much more drive out of corners that he couldn't stay with it, but he reckoned he had more top end.  Both bikes otherwise pretty much standard but well tuned.  I rode his bike for the first time recently, I have to say it didn't do much for me - my Jota feels much more nimble and alive, but I have ridden little else for the last couple of decades so admit I am not very objective!

I took my 120 Jota to the Isle of Skye along with my mate on his VFR750.
Riding along I felt mine was stronger in the midrange but losing out on top end (I had no fairing on it and a fuck-off rucksack on my back).
When we got to the Mallaig ferry he turned to me and said 'mine is stronger in the midrange but yours is stronger on top end...'

I guess it is all about perception.

Nick,

P1 cams are quite similar to the 180? C7 racing cams, do bugger-all for low- and mid-range power but kick arse at the top!  P1 are not as critical as the C7 in regard to (the lack of) silencing.

Thanks, Piet, that's interesting - highlights the need to pick cams fit for purpose!  I know my mate played around with several setups many years ago when he could get onto the Ruapuna circuit quite easily.  I only found out recently he had P1's when I had the cover off.
