Cox Monty exhaust

Posted on behalf of a UK based Monty owner. System surplus to requirements. Cost about £900 new and open to sensible offers. If interested PM me and I will give you the seller’s contact details.
 
not many Montys around and those that are have exhausts already, so not many buyers, its the way of the world unfortunately and even I have synpathy with the seller.
Ideal for Corrine Marxy, that will keep the neighbours awake!

No way.
Charlotte, my ex, insisted I mount a Formula exhaust on her 500.
Makes the bike unusable, too noisy.

Hi Andy,
I am looking for an exhaust for the John Reed Laverda.
Original it was 2 in 1 but I think that was very noisy. You rode the bike, was it?

I don’t know the Monty exhaust specs. Is it Formula noisy?
I want to ride tracksessions so not to noisy.
Is this set usable for that?

A standard Formula exhaust will not be allowed on any track with noise limits.
Somewhere between 110 and 120 dB if not more I imagine.

Hi Otto.
The Superbike Monty had, as you stated, a 2 into 1 that was bespoke made. it was insanely loud, so an attempt had been made to reduce the noise with a bolt on set of baffle plates covering the exhaust outlet. It wasn’t an awful lot quieter with them fitted. Perhaps you could have someone fabricate a new 2-1 using a Zane 650 sport silencer so it’s a bit more ear friendly and will pass track testing.
An original Monty exhaust, which is the same as the series two Formula 500, is, as Paul says, around 115db, but I think the Cox set is a little bit quieter as he used some more modern sound reducing wadding in the ‘silencers’. However, I suspect they will still be more than 103db, which is often the maximum permitted at many race circuits.
P.S. The exhaust for the series one Formula 500 was even louder than the one fitted to the Monty/series two F500.

Hi Andy,
A Zane 2-1 is quite big. My Harris 580 has an supertrapp 2-1 exhaust. Works great but big. Noisy but not too much.
The Superbike Monty had a smaller ‘silencer ‘, looks better.
It probably will be a full 600 big bore and formula head. Noise will be a challenge.

and the Jota pipes on your triple are quiet at 6,000rpm then Paul? I don't think so!
anyway you ex hippie I was joking that Corinne would like it,I mean unlike you she is a genuine beauty with class, definately not a hooligan, like I was.

ps I tried lanfarnconi's on TOG inorder to lower the tones, but she was starngled, so reverted at motorway speeds (90MPH ish) you can probably hear her a mile away
 
My recollection of Supertrapp mufflers was they had removable washers so you could dial how much sound reduction they made, oddly the fewer the number of washers the quieter they were. I had one once but all it had was a threaded rod sticking out the end with nothing else attached. Zero washers and no end cap. It didn't muffle much

6000 revs!!!!
Not in my yard whatever and I rarely went that far when it was running.
I'm not an ex hippy, I've just given up smoking.
