Dellorto float "axle"

Hopefully a very straightforward question...

The axle on which the floats pivot on a Dellorto carb has one end knurled. Does that go in first (to go into the "blind" hole) or last? Hope you know what I mean. Knurled end on right hand side...

The Sprint passed its MOT today - hurray! - which it shouldn't as the exhaust collector is fractured - again... - but then went onto two on the way home - boo! - just like it did on the way back from Italy last year. In that case, said "axle" dislodged and the floats wouldn't drop so the right cylinder kept getting starved of fuel. I dismantled the carb and put it back together with the knurled end last, but it seems it's done the same thing again today. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

My wallet keeps screaming in anticipation of being lightened to the tune of a set of Mikunis as I'm getting fed up with the Dell's!

TIA

Doh! Stupid question! I just tried it and it won't fit knurled end first!!!

So my own follow up... Should the knurled part be pushed right in, not in at all or partially in? It doesn't seem to want to go in at all - sits proud, but that makes the float bowl very hard to fit!

Pin should sit a bit proud so you got something to get hold of for removal, the bowl holds it in. Try turning it a bit to see if the splines line up best one way.
