Does anyone know why the vacuum take-offs are linked on the RGS carbs rather than blanked?

Is it possible to balance the carbs with the tank on?

The factory chose to link the take-offs instead of blanking them, even before the 120s were introduced. By all means, blank them off... but don't come complaining the blanking plugs fall under the starter motor when you try to remove/replace them and are irretrievable. ;)

Far easier to fit a connecting hose than individual plugs. Theoretically, the hose offers an advantage at idle rpm.

No, quite impossible to balance them with the tank fitted.

Thanks Piet.

I took mine off and cleaned them because they were very lumpy at idle and on the secondary circuit; it was awful at low speed and it turned out one of the secondary jets was totally blocked.
Once cleaned I set the slides manually to the reference #2 carb and it is running pretty well, but there is a slight lumpiness just off idle and I’m wondering if this would be fixed by dynamic balancing?

Vacuum balancing will provide the best results for smooth running. But there are other things to bear in mind.
Needles and associated atomiser jets wear quickly due to the pulsating airflow and replacement is a worthwhile exercise. And of course a clean air filter...

If you replace jets and needles, buy from a reputable dealer. I bought some Dellorto jets on ebay a few years ago and they turned out to be fake Dellorto parts. The jet orifice sizes were way off. I may as well have just put random jets in the carbs. It made me wonder why anyone would go to the trouble of making jets, stamping the wee little numbers on them, and then not drill the right sized holes in them. Drilling the holes is the easiest step in the manufacturing process. All you need is a $30 set of small numbered drills.

:ROFLMAO: yeah done that with Mikuni carbs....

being black and falling into a black hole and being unable to find.
Only after all other avenues had been exhausted did I remove the starter motor and there it was..... sitting peacefully and patiently,
ready to be rescued. :ROFLMAO:
1/2 hour of my life Ill never get back....
