Derek Rickman RIP

The Rickman Bros were local moto-x heroes in the part of the world I come from.I remember a lady at the place I used to work in the early `seventies ,not a bike rider but enthusing over seeing them perform at a local M-X meeting.
Had a R125SD with beautiful nickel-plated frame,Betor forks, chain lubrication from a reservoir built into the left hand swing arm.
Terrific build quality and finish.
Only fly in the ointment was a Smiths speedo from an early Rocket 3 which read upto 150 mph-it would cruise quite happily on the road at 100-110 mph indicated which in reality was only about 60-70 mph of course.Only fitted to make it road legal.
I believe a few still exist over in the `states, imported by BSA in their dying days, maybe sold off the back of their performances in the `73 ISDT held over there.

😢
I cherish mine, a beautifully made thoroughbred..
Looking at that picture what strikes me is how integrated and complete it looks ,impressive for such a tiny concern to produce a machine to a standard that easily compares to anything the large manufactures could come up with.
Other special frame manufacturers like Harris and Spondon had an impressive race pedigree, but always gave the impression of an assembled kit of parts compared to the Rickman.(In my eyes anyway, not doubting the riding experience).
MKM (Mike Krauser) framed BMW`s were impressive also, but still not as attractive as the Rickman.

I slightly modified a Rickman Fairing designed for a Yamaha 1100 to fit my 70 750 Breganzie SF0 - Best thing I ever did for that ride.

Kept the wind and the rain off me for something like an extra 5 lbs which I saved by using Slater Brother's 2 into pipes exhaust headers ;o)

Had to re-jet the mains from 25's to 32's on them open mouth VHB 30's.

Only 17 1/2" wide and a sail at speed = 120 mph+ down any straight.

Loved my Phantoms but alas gone just like the Rickman Fairing and Slater's 2 into 1 pipes for the Breganzie 750 SF ;o(

R.I.P Derek - You sure helped me !

The early 70's - Them were the days when European Bikes taught the emerging Jap Bikes a thing or two.

Homemade rack to carry 2x's 24's of Beer or an endowed Lady with a pillow - Not saying she was not a grocery getter ;o)

I always park her out of public sight as if I did not when I returned I had to spend time explaining to a crowd what she was.

The Rickman Fairing - One of the BEST !

NOT a Breganzie original fairing; but better in my opinion !

That Chronometer with a LED Clock was just a reminder for me to home; however, it shed a green glow under the canopy that really looked neat while cursing the streets and easy on the eye's looking at the dashboard at night.
