Differences between 180 and 120 gearbox?

Are the gears and shafts the same between the 180 and 120? Specifically I am interested in the output gear. The gear with the rear chain sprocket. Would this gear from a 180 work in a 120 or is it different?

If different, anyone know what the part numbers are for each one?

Not really, just vastly improved.

By 1980, the 180? gearbox was severely dated, the basic design being carried over from the 750.  The new 'box must have been on the drawing board for quite some time, MkII 180? engine cases have all required bosses for the new shift mechanism already cast into them, just not machined.

New 'box has LH shift, revised selector mechanism, less parts and more gears running on needle bearings instead of bushes.  Doesn't mean they don't go bust, especially prone is the mainshaft and 5th gear sleeve shaft.  Too tight drive chains can bugger these quickly.

Quite a bit better than the old crash box, but still not as slick as a jap 'box.
