Differences between BREMBO F08 and P08 calipers

Who is informed about the different types of the early BREMBO calipers? I'd be interested in the differences between the models F08 and P08. Have both been produced since 1973?
Any information is welcome.

F08 and P08 callipers

Hi all, I am looking for some help regarding my RGS brake callipers. I need a seal kit and pistons. I checked in the technical info section here, and it tells me the RGS is fitted with P08 callipers. I have been searching the web and found images of callipers labelled P08 and F08, and they look...

F08 calipers are generally threaded in the mount points, there are a couple of variations of these that I know of (early "halo embossed Brembo and the later embossed Brembo logo) the P08s are generally not threaded and on Laverda will mount on Marzocchi forks where the mounting thread is in the fork leg itself, also rear calipers of P08 and F08 are both not threaded, they will all take 38mm pistons.
Brembo also made a shaved F08 and P08 caliper genrally for 900SS Ducatis there is also Brembo goldline Calipers but this stuff is a bit removed form what you maybe looking for.
 
As far as I'm aware, P08 and F08 both refer to the same caliper. They're both just lazy abbreviations the full designation, P2F08.

You sometimes see letters or numbers letters or numbers like P2F08/3, or P2F08/N. I haven't decoded those but I presume they refer to the different versions, such as left, right, single or double bleed nipple, threaded or non-threaded mounting holes.

As far as I'm aware, P2F08 refers to the basic caliper type in various guises as fitted to Laverdas. P2P08 has mountings as the earlier Lockheed, Fontana, Scarab, et al and require a large triangular tab on the sliders, as found on the Ducati 750S or MV 750S e.g. The later MV 750S America actually sported P08s, replacing the obsolete Scarab calipers found on the earlier models. Lots of pics on the web of Bimota HB1 wearing either Fontana or Brembo P08s.

Pads for both F and P08 are the same, as are the pistons and seals. P08 are not handed, swapping the bleed and banjo allows installation on both sides.

Somehow, P08 has established itself as referrence to all classic Brembo calipers with 38mm pistons.

Thanks for your feedback so far. I like Dell'Ortoman's idea that both are sloppy used abbreviations which stand for one and the same caliper P2F08. A further distinction is made after the back slash (e.g. shaved/narrow).
