Difficult Down Shifting

Just one thing that can be overlooked when you have gear change issues is chain tension make sure it is not slack and that you dont have a loose sprocket too...

Hi,

Have a '76 Triple and I'm finding that the shifting action is high effort shifting down from fifth to fourth and also to third.  Any recommendations on adjusting the shift mechanism?  Your help is appreciated.

I have also discovered that the 180 is difficult to upshift to fourth. It is like I have to take my foot instead of just my toe and lift straight up and maybe it will shift or it wil hit a false neutral, and if it does go it still has the down shift problem. I have it at the shop now. Your help would be appreciated.

Try loosening the bolts holding the case and working the gear lever through the gears while turning the rear wheel. If it gets better nip the bolts up and keep doing it with a nip a bit at a time.Sometimes the mechanism binds a bit and with a wiggle it finds the sweet spot.Thats if its set right inside and all the bits are in the right spot. There are pages and pages of this stuff.
