Digital speedo & tacho

Hi all,

No speedo drive on the front wheel now so looking for a digital speedo and tacho, has any one out there used or heard any thing good, bad or indifferent about Acewell units? Tempted by the 1600, looks small and neat, and has shift lights.

There's a company in Berlin called Moto Gadget. They have a lot of cool stuff and the guy running it rides a Laverda himself. If he doesn't have his own website you can find it all in the Stein-Dinse page.

Not heard much about acewell but from what i understand the one to go for is the micro dash from translogic. I've spent quite a long time researching all things digital dash and its the one i'm going for. The moto gadget is a very nice looking unit but unless you buy the add on for the warning lights etc its very sparse in its information.

Acewell is good as long as you can live with the rather modern LCD type look of it. MotoGadget do - as Tom said - real cool things, but more on the higher pricing side. But then everything is really first class in terms of quality of the parts, sensors etc., which does balance the price a bit. Roughly twice the price as the Acewell, but the Acewell also does not have Hall-sensors etc. as far as I know. Make your choice  ;)

And Heiko running it is a good guy, very helpful.

the Acewell 1600 is by far the least expensive, and wiring the Translogic to a Laverda looks to me like a bit of a challenge. I love the MotoGadget stuff, gorgeous, well made, I really like the ChronoClassic, but they have a line of digital guages as well, and their M Unit is really clever as a wiring solution.

I use the cheaper option Acewell and its been utterly reliable for 3 1/2 years. It came with all sensors included in the price, except fuel tank sender although it has the facility for fuel gauge.

Ive found it useful for trip, miles, hours ridden, particularly voltage and oil temp, top speed, max revs and max temp recall plus more. Aesthetically it doesnt do much for the Jota . Sadly it's no more as it got crushed so I now have to decide what to do...Good value without the idiot light and now available with lap timer.
In summary, not the best but maybe the best value.

Thanks everyone,

As you say Rob, the Acewell seems the best value. I like the motogadget tacho with the digital speedo but a bit pricy considering the shopping / wish list I have!

Thanks again,

Maitland.

Maitland,
Here is a shot of a Translogic mounted on my 81 Jota.
Acewell is better value for money though, this unit was pretty damn expensive.
Works well though.

I've been using an Acewell 3701 for over a year now and haven't got any complaints yet. It's cheap, easy to install, very easy to read in all conditions and very accurate. The only mucking around was locating the sensor which, in my case, involved making a little aluminium plate and hanging it off the bottom of the shocky mount so I could mount the magnets on the sprocket. Not too hard really.
