Dinoed today

I had my bike dynoed today, sorry no graphs. There printer was stuffed. I was concerned about having correct jetting for the coming up Snowy Run. It ended up at 122 mins from 130. End result was close enough to 88hp and 75ft lbs ,very flat toque curve on what the shop says is probably lower numbers than most other shops Dynojet Dynos.
He said with more fettling that could improve a bit.Came home via Coal and Candle Creek Rd,local National Park and it was just hunky dory out of the bends.Shops called Motorcycle Weaponry at Mona Vale, the Dyno blokes name is Rodger and has an ex Crosby Moriwaki he runs in forgot ira, has some position in the Eligibility Committee for that class. There also building
a Norton Twin to go against that crazy fast Kiwi Norton that raced at The Barry last year.Really good blokes who know there stuff.

Its my 1975 3C .Engine rebuild by Redax after last years engine blow up on the Snowy Run.He found an edge of the hardened seats fitted years ago was exposed and caused the detonation that destroyed the inlet side ring lands of the  forged and coated pistons. This was blended away, new pistons and a rebore, new valves,41 and 34, new bilit inlet manifolds to suit my extreme porting done years ago,big bore headers and collector,Mikuni 36mm carbs replaced the 38mm Keihin flat slides as at the time no cause for the engine damage had been found,40mm Guzzi rubber carb connectors, worked better at holding the carbs snug, finally went Carrelos, and the last bit was an Ignitech ignition fitted by and fiddled with by Brett.Forgot to mention F1 cams and hardened buckets to suit. And my weird half Bosch and half SJCE starter motor rebuilt .So now I hope for years of reliable fast fun to start.

Thanks, that sounds like a great engine with lots of fun  ;) Motoplast get's similar configuration, but with slightly bigger displacement:

-80,2mm pistons (forged and coated Ross Racing, bought from Red)
-lightened and balanced crank and some other components
-polished and weighted original rods
-41mm/35mm valves
-ported head
-39mm Flat sliders
-F1 profile cams
-ignitech ignition

I thought about having either a close ratio gearbox in it or a 6 gear gearbox (both roughly the same cost...), but decided against it. 2.500? just for the gearbox is way more than I would be willing to spend...

Exhaust wise I am still undecided wether to go 3-1-2 or just 3-1. Volki of this forum has a rebuilt Sulzbacher kind of exhaust, but that's quite loud, which will give me issues to get it registered/MOT'd. Bringing it down to Munich for SR-Racing to build me one would be the best option, but needs the engine to be run-in first. So - I might start with one exhaust and change it later on... double cost...  (not only for the engine but also for getting the new one into the papers... ) ::)

An old gearbox specialist who does it for any motorbike, located near Stuttgart if I remember right... Not sure he is still in business, but I have a flyer somewhere from him and had a chat with him years ago. He said he can do it for any motorbike, but needs the complete original gearbox and the crank case to build a gearbox...

Lothar you didnt ask if it was at the wheel your slipping mate. Clutch pushrods didnt weld together either.Saw that on Paul's Redax built  race bike, seeing is believing. Basically, sorry that words gets used to much. There's nothing to odd in mine, just factory Corsa type engine stuff in an early bike.Really grunty fun off the lights and out of corners. Its so good when it finally comes together, there are ALWAYS hiccups doing this shit along the way. There were a so issues that came up but all got sorted EVENTUALY and get forgoten after a run in the hills. Here is an example, second run on the Dino, the clutch cable brakes, luckily I have a spare but its that old the outer of the cable is kinked and it wont adjust up. So the dino bloke makes a cable and we keep going, tipical, I try and cover all contingencies and nope, blind sided again. Next day I forgot it happened.

Yeh thats right nearly had forgotten about that, being there on the spot to witnesses it also was a bugger to get them out too.
So Vince let us know if you want to do something early tomorrow before you settle in to watch the MotoGP.

I need to a shake down run on the RGS at some time I guess as reckon should be taking the touring bike on the Snowy run... which might turn into a 5 day for me... just hope Chris wont get upset if I dont go to Tathra as am thinking of doing the Vic clubs concourse which is on the Sunday, any other takers for an extended run home .....

122.5 main jets are pretty damn small for your engine Vince, would have liked to have seen the dyno chart
would off expected to see more rear wheel horsepower from your engine as well, with those modifications thought mid to high 90's would have been achievable

Would be great  to head south to see the Mexicans  Brett but I am heading up to Wee Waa on the Monday after the Snowy Run to take my old Uncle to a Vision Australia assesmate in Gunadarra.Perfect timing as usual.

Red the way he was talking there is some left to find. Will head back in the new year for more dino time. The graph showed good air fuel cruising on the mains up to 7000, so I am more confident its safe.He did say there dino read a bit lower compared to others about.

Going to do the full throttle for 5 seconds and then back off a smidge test on Sunday on the big hills of The Putty. If it still keeps accelerating its lean so I hear. The Dino showed correct Air Fuel on a constant throttle even up to 7000, its shows rich with a fist full,
thats the accelerator pumps.Probably do more Dino runs next year.

I would also expect more than 85HP with those modifications. My 1976 3CL which is all stock other than IIS ignition, JOTA exhaust and jetting changes made 82HP at the rear wheel. It did take many hours at the dyno to achieve this.

I might have to take my bike there as well Vince. How long does it all take and what is the cost?

Could they not email you the graph from the dyno?

Ed.

Ed,the cost is $250 or so,depending on the number of runs. The shops not open on the weekend so its mid week only. For 1 run its 20 minutes or less and it depends on what they find to sort.Bit like a length of string.Just rang and there going to try and email me the graph. BTW the mains ended up at 127,not 122.5. This is Mikuni carbs on my bike , not Dels.Just the Bs sessions is worth the trip, had a good time as well as getting a great bike result.

Jeez, that makes my dyno bloke sound cheap. Normally costs around $100 for a session which usually involves several runs if anything needs tweaking.
Only problem is that it's getting hard to book time because his dyno work is now restricted to Saturday mornings only. Local Council have put the restriction on him because the businesses around him whinged about the noise during business hours, even though the dyno is in an attenuated enclosure inside his workshop, so bike engine noise is not particularly loud or intrusive outside the building, even with loud exhausts like my Jota. You can barely hear the quieter bikes at all. Anyway, it's an industrial area FFS. Trucks going past in the street make more noise.
