Disc Brake rotors

Hi Keith, had a look at them yesterday after Grant sent the link, but couldn't find any reference for the wheel.
Didn't factor in buying discs in the budget so can't spent a fortune and need to save some $$ for a Ohlin rear shock!!
Speigler are out of my budget, what's a set of EBCs worth then? PM me if you like

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob,

are you sure the 89 - 95 discs are different? I think the only difference is that they are floating instead of firmly bolted to the holders, else the measurements are the same I think. I have some floating ones on the 1000 SFC on GSX-R wheels from a 1988 1100 GSX-R. They fit perfectly...

see page 119, part no is MSW 217. Check on page 151 for the dimensions. You can also search the  PDF for the MSW217 and see which other bikes use the same disc, then make a search on ebay etc. for discs for those bikes...  ;)

Lothar,

I think you're correct. Discs for later model GSX-R1100s look like they will fit. Perhaps the folks at S3 haven't realised this.

Cheers,

GSXR disc fitment changed after the K model, have tried a set of L/M discs they do not fit, different pcd of the mounting holes. EBC part number for the early slabside 18" wheeled J/K model GSXR 1100 is MD3004 for 310mm floaters, 300mm are also available. Rear discs are almost universal across the Suzuki range.

Lothar, S3 said the later models had less offset. My computer doesn't open that link you posted. I'd like to see the dimension for the later models.
I'm leaning towards the Metalgear discs, only $170each and available in Oz. But I'm still open to other options.

you have a point here, just checked back and found the rim I have has a 81mm mounting hole cycle vs. the 86mm of the MSW217. MSW 214 would fit from the Mounting hole/diameter, but would have the wrong offset (13,5mm). If you can make yourself some spacers, that one would be possible, too I think.

if you add spacers to obtain the correct rotor offset then you just lost the modified Laverda speedo drive
is not possible to move the rotors out any further

I will use a Motogadget instrument on the Motoplast anyway, so no problem for ME, but sure, you are right: with the original speedo drive...

Rob: Get some used ones. I think that is the cheapes solution if they are straight and have enough material left...

no problem for me either Lothar as I am using a Translogic dash but not everyone wants to go to a digital dash
majority of the GSXR wheel conversions I do retain the original instruments and space is at a minimum
