DMC2 rev counter filter

Gents, I am struggling a little with the installation of the DMC2 rev counter filter on my RGS.

The filter instructions give
1=Grey to ignition coil -ve
2=Black to ground
3=Green to Green/Grey to rev counter

On my filter I have wires coloured Grey, Black & Brown.
I assume the brown on mine is the green on the instructions........

Now on installation
2=Black to ground, easy enough

But the green/grey to the rev counter comes off the -ve side of the centre ignition coil.
So according to the instructions both Grey & Green go to the same point.

Or should I connect the Grey to one of the other coils?

On the coil connections am I correct in orange/white being +ve and black being -ve

Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.......

Not quite, you have to stick the filter in between the rev counter and the coil. Do disconnect the rev counter from the coil, grey goes to the coil, brown goes to the rev counter, this is assuming the brown wire has replaced the green wire.....

Now to check, it is a simple low pass filter, according to Uwe Witt it is a 22k resistor between the coil and the tacho and a .1uF Cap between this and ground, so if you put your multimeter on ohms, on a scale larger than 22k then the leads that go between the coil and tacho should measure 22k, the earth lead will measure open circuit from either wire as it is a capacitor.

Hope that helps.

Awesome, BTW I just went and checked out mine and it's green, brown and black, different again! The cap is on the green wire side of the resistor according to my capacitor measuring thingy so that's all correct. So if you don't want to buy a filter and want to make one it's:-

coil--------22k resistor----.--------tach green in my case
brown in      1/4W          |
my case                        |
                                    |
= .1 uF cap greencap or ceramic is fine
                                    |
                                    |
                                    |
                                GND
                                black

Uwe Witt was quite happy to tell me what it was!

This interests me. The electronic tacho needle on my SFC1000 is all over the place, particularly when indicators or lights are on. Extremely Veglia.

Drikko - I dont quite follow your excellent wiring diag... Any chance of a clearer one? That is, for me to buy the bits and make one. I dont imagine I can but a DMC2 filter off the shelf in NZ. KiwiLav, where did you buy yours?

Thanks

Andre,
I have some DMC filters left in stock.
Will post one tomorrow.

Also, Drikko will be in the workshop today as we are fitting the Ignitech to the French engine and he is also binning his DMC and mounting a Sachse on his RGS.
I'll get him to label the wires from the filter so even a Kiwi can follow them.  :D

Red

Forgot to label you wires sorry, so your is the same colour as mine ie black wire to ground, brown wire to the coil, green wire to the tacho.

However I'm not sure this is your problem, I suspect you may have a grounding or broken wiore in the tacho circuitry. When I got my RGS the tacho was all over the place and it was caused by the balancing weights on the tacho needle falling off. They couldn't fix that so they replaced theengine of the tacho with a modern one which worked well for a few months, now it's back to swinging wildly all over the place, so until I need to pull the fairing apart for something serious I'll just leave it like that.

Got the filter some time ago from Allan in the UK (A14RGS) he had a spare.
Wire colours are different to Drikko's.

Had a problem with the tacho some years ago, the weights leaped off and it was all over the place.
Fitted an electronic one of a Kawasaki, I think.
Worked OK through the rev range but not at low rpm.

Had the Veglia repaired by E Parrot in Christchurch and fitted it at the week end.
All appeared to be working but now its all over the place again.
Must check the earth.

Wonder what would happen with the filter the wrong way round..... would it stop the feed to the rev counter? must give it a go.
If I can not get it to work then it may be back to the jap thingy.

By the way Andre, where are you in NZ?
I'm in a somewhat less shaky Christchurch.

Ah, I'd forgotten about that! It came direct from Uwe Witt, so it's reasonable to assume that it's correct.

It might alter the waveform of the signal from the dmc to the coil but I doubt it would be noticeable, and no the tacho feed wouldn't stop, just be unfiltered as the coil would swamp the capacitor. No harm, just wouldn't make any difference.

:(Sorry gents, but struggling here.....the wire extending from the coil - how do I make a connection without breaking the wiring to the coil? Thx

cant get my new filter to work. Cant imagine that I might have screwed it up...
Coil has existing feed wires brown on one side, orange/white on other. I hooked up up the filter brown on to terminal brown. Seemed logical to me. any suggestions

Hi Andre,

Does this help? Go here, if not clear enuf:

You don't .. :D.  I quote Tom Eastman:

"The resistor is placed on the ignition signal wire running into the console. Cut the wire and place it in between with connectors of your choice."
